Since I'm sick of hearing about election news from both sides of the fence, I decided to head out to a new pond today after work. I had fished there once before and caught a tiny six inch bass so I figured there were surely bigger ones there as well. Skies were grey and light rain continued off an on for most of the two hours I was out there, but I greatly preferred wet and cold with a fly rod in hand to sitting on the couch and having politics work its tentacles into every conversation.

Started out with a carp-it-bomb and landed a small blue gill but didn't get any other action. As the darkness began setting I finally decided it was time for some topwater action. I tied on a solar flare Boogle Bug and worked my way through some tall grass. I couldn't manage to cast much more than 10 feet but a couple of pops later and smash! Fish on! I landed a decent one pounder.

I worked my way around the pond and ended up landing this smaller bass. The strike was completely different, a much more gentle sip - one minute my fly was floating in the water, the next it was gone. Topwater never ceases to amaze me at the variety of strikes it can produce.

I ended up landing another small bass before it simply got too dark to see. Can't say there is a better diversion from life's stress than picking up a fly rod and fishing in solitude.

I like your "political" views.

I agree with Capt. Mac
Thank you for sharing your fishing with us. I know that taking photos and fishing is far more work than simply fishing. It is appreciated.
