oh boy..I do love the Ft. Worth Trinity. I like to fish all the spillways, especially when the water is running, but you don't want it running too strong, but enough to provide some aeration. With massive rains that always brings new fish to the various spillways. I always like to mention years ago when I researched the FW Trinity for Alligator Gar, I ran into a bunch of old timers who showed me pics of monster flatheads, alligator gar all caught right there at "Panther Island". All the spillways caused those massive fish to be landlocked and once they were harvested, they were long gone. However the Carp have done well in the FW system and there are plenty of 15-20lb fish to be caught. Some very nice (and possibly state record!) Longnose Gar are plentiful and fun to catch. 3-8lb Channel cats everywhere, occasional small blues and flatheads. 2-5lb bass...everywhere it seems.

As far as eating fish out of the FW Trinity, I would not eat fish from there on a routine basis, but once a month is probably not going to hurt you. Especially if you catch fish when the water is moving and perhaps let the fish live in a cleaning tank for a few days before eating it. I've met countless people who eat fish from the FW Trinity all the time.

Good thread guys, lots of good info here. I've always had luck off university under the bridge off university by the zoo and down a ways by the food truck park. 10 inch power worms are my fav to use. But here recently the mean eye crank baits from Cabelas have been killing it.

The past two weeks I've poked around near Rock wood Park University Dr recently in search of clearer water and rock gravel hard bottom & found a beautiful stretch but it has only produced two bites on two trips missed 1 and broke 1 off. I've also been to Echo, City View, Joe Pool Loyd Park, and Lake Arlington typical of winter for me bites have been few and far between.

I'd suggest to pick a spot that looks fishy enough, chum the area with corn or range cubes, every day, at the same time, for maybe 3 days in a row and then on the next trip don't throw out any chum just fish the area and see what happens. I did the same thing years ago @ Rockwood and it produced plenty of action. Carp, cats, etc. Good luck!

Got some action a few days ago around panther island near the bridge on the trail.
Only could fish for bout 20 minutes or so, but caught a nice little chunk.
Hot pink rooster tail, alot of junk in the water after the storms blew in.

You can still find them in the winter(or lack of there of) they wont be as aggressive as they are in warmer times of the year. Find rocks on warmer days and you should find a few

Got these 2 chunks on my lunch hour. Caught on the west fork just below lake worth near the trinity airbase trails.
Both caught near the rocks with chartreuse rapala rattletraps. Both released to caught again.
Love the trinity.

smileyman,

I work from home, those 2 in the above pic were from the west fork about 6 blocks from home below lake worth dam.
So on my lunch hour I can get close to a hour fishing in on good warm days.
I have caught fish every singe day i went, except for yesterday.
Through the tackle box, not even a bite.
Noticed a ton of gar in the area which is rare for that spot, wonder if that has something to do with it?
That spot is usually good for bass and sandbass in the afternoons.

I always do scouting, so many places on the trinity that all produce fish....
