Anybody else been fishing it lately. Over the past week I've hit Nutt Lake, River Park off of Bryant Irvin, & Trinity Park. Caught fish in all three but South End of Trinity Park has been the most consistent. Caught a couple 5lb Channel Cats while bass fishing at River Park. Going to hit a few different stretches next week see what I can find.

Hi DWinn,

Just the post I been looking for.
I am tired of looking and driving all over dfw for ponds to fish.
I recently started a quest to start fishing the trinity, taking notes, and try different spots.
I live in the River Oaks area, I have tried the stretch near the base off Mandering Rd. with pretty good success.
Was there last week before cool front came in and caught 5 in under a hour.
All bass and 1 huge blue gill. Caught them on the rocks on rooster tails (chartreuse) and rapala rattle traps (chrome).
Bass were nothing huge, probably a good pound or 2, but very active.
Tried the stretch near Westworth, no luck, very small perch, a few dinks, thats it.

In the spring time, I have caught sandbass in this same strecth on little georges and jigs, color dont matter.

You ever tried the banks near panther island? I am looking for new stretches to try? Any pointers would be great.

I'm a local river rat. I love fishing the Trinity. Panther Island is a lot of fun and so is the area off of university. Also, consider 4th street area, Rockwood, and Bellaire. Stick to the banks and brushy edges and you'll find a good pattern. The funny thing about the river it's that patterns vary by location on the river thrOughout ft worth. However, plastics along the bank will point you in the right direction regardless which stretch you hit

I regularly bike Trinity Trails and I sometimes I bring a collapsible travel fishing rod with me to fish the low river crossings. It's been slow the last few times I've fished it, the water seems to be really low especially around Beach Street by Gateway Park. I'm planning on riding and fishing this weekend, hopefully the recent rains will spark some bites.

The beach st area is low due construction. Head west towards 4th street. You'll find some bass

Thanks for the report RussPrater.
It would e nice to keep this thread going.
Not enough good fort worth posts in this forum.
Trinity is a gold mind right in the middle of the city.
I plan on hitting up panther island area this weekend and will post a report.

I am not sure Cast, I probably wouldn't.
Just the history of it being pretty trashy, and connecting to Lake Worth with a consumption band.
But that is just my opinion.

I will say this though, the Trinity has really cleaned up.

The city has really done a good job, no where as bad as it used to be back in the day.

Very good question tho, maybe someone else can chime in.

I think there is a consumption ban for that stretch of the Trinity River: http://tpwd.texas.gov/regulations/outdoo...-and-advisories

Quote:
Clear Fork of Trinity River from Benbrook Reservoir dam and West Fork from Lake Worth dam, including main stem of the Trinity downstream to US 287 bridge. Portions of Anderson, Dallas, Ellis, Freestone, Henderson, Kaufman, Navarro and Tarrant counties.

Chemicals of Concern:Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), Dioxins
Persons should not consume any species of fish from these waters.

After seeing the kind of junk under the water due to the low water at Beach Street, I wouldn't eat anything that comes out of that water.

Just looked at google earth, the 4th street location and panther island look really good.
I am new at this bass fishing thing, my tackle box consist of plastic crappie jigs, rooster tails, and rattle traps, never fished with plastic worms. I assume that is what you meant by plastics. Found some pretty good videos on you tube about texas rigging plastic worms. Do you guys have any recommendations on size of worms, colors, brands, etc.. I'm a rookie bass fisher man... Got this little guy last week near the base fishing rocky banks.

Personally I like the super flukes from zoom. They're cheap and effective. Can be fished tx rigged weighted or weightless. Yamamoto senkos are good but expensive. Bass pro has an equivalent called the stik-o. Also effective, but sometimes only good for one fish. Green has been the best color for me. If they're not hitting that, I'll try chartreuse or bubble gum.

Heck, if I can't eat what I catch, I can't justify the expense of fishing the Trinity river downtown. Too bad the river is polluted.

A good worm color there is motor oil chartreuse. Get some crawls and play around with different colors. It's a quick way to build confidence on the Trinity River

As far as eating the fish, the cleanest area is between eagle mountain dam and lake worth but you need a small craft to get up in there these days. Other urban areas I wouldn't consume that goes fir any river that goes through a major city
