Was fishing & filming with my friend Justin Rackley (known these at YouTube celebrity "LakeForkGuy"). Fish started schooling like crazy, usual madness ensues, and one of my rods goes overboard. Schooling fish always leads to madness, much rather lose a rod than get hooked in the head though, so could always be worse! hammer

That's Justin in the grey, and "1rod1reelfishing" in the blue short sleeve. I'm the one in the long sleeve blue shirt, ducking to avoid the treble hook to the head...guiding for years teaches such things!

Yeah I saw this on Justins page. Seems like he felt bad about it. My trolling motor rope got under a IMX/Revo MGX combo this weekend and almost flipped in over the side. Luckily I was able to grab it.

Seems like this was the weekend for it! I kicked my new 13Fishing/Daiwa combo off the deck in the dark while I was trying to get my headlamp on right. Lucky grab saved it though. Not as nice as y'alls sticks but it's my nicest one!

Yeah, he felt really bad about it. I've lost phones, pliers, sunglasses and a great number of other things over the side, plus crushed rods in car doors and ceiling fans. Never a dull moment in fishing.

Always important to have something to give your fishing buddies grief about. More ammo to give Justin a hard time about now wink

It hurts. I remember my 1st setup. A Kistler Magnesium with a Curado. I took care of that rig like it was a NASCAR. I broke the end of the rod off, when I got snagged, while using braid, while fighting drift in a kayak. If I had been using Flouro or Mono, the rod would have survived.

like the man says...if you're swimming in the ocean and get bitten by a shark, its not a shark attack. You're in THEIR neighborhood. If you're at home in your shower, turn around and a shark is in there with you...THAT'S a shark attack

I got one for ya...

A few weeks ago, prefishing for a tourney, my trolling motor exploded. So, I fished anyways. Using a rope anchor. I drop the rope anchor up wind of where I wanted to be(logical), and cast a 6xd downwind. I get the 6xd hung up. So, clever me, decides to pull up the anchor and go free the lure. As I'm pulling the anchor(it's hung on a rock or something), I hear a kerplunk! The sick feeling comes on like a heart attack. So I quickly start the motor and try to idle over to it and yep....the anchor holds fast!! And the rod is about 2-3ft out of reach. But floating. Haha. So, I have to really pull the boat to the hung up anchor...against the wind...and unhang the anchor while keeping an eye on the rod and reel....still floating. After what seems like two hours (maybe two minutes), I have the boat freed and am idling over to a Steez rod ($579) with a Team Lews Pro reel($300) and a $8 lure. Looking back, I should have tugged a little harder on the lure.

Thank goodness the REALLY light gear floats.

Eat. Sleep. Fish.

in my experience a rod/reel will sink just slow enough to allow an angler to watch it slowly sink to the bottom yet just fast enough that you can't catch it!

When guiding, this is exactly the reason I switched to quantum reels and falcon rods for my guests...the equipment held up but at least if I had a client lose a setup, I wasn't out $500+ dollars.

Customer's son kicked one of mine overboard and I witnessed a friends son kick his $600 setup overboard.

No offense meant but lost equipment is part of bass fishing, my worse loss were
3 GLX with Shimano Calais at tournament takeoff. Didn't strap em down, going down lake a bay boat crosses my path
with its terrible wake. I WAS SICK TO MY STOMACH,wanted to go home, I'm still haunted by that day.
