Do you peg the sinker when fishing a Texas rig in grass?

If you peg, the weight will pull the bait down into it more, if you don't it will let the bait flutter down on top of it with the weight down on the line ahead of it like a Carolina rig.

You want to drop bait on top of the grass or drop bait through the grass? Where and how are the fish feeding?

I have more success with my Texas rigs unpegged than pegged. I only peg when flipping/pitching to vertical cover or swimming a Texas rig to the boat. Otherwise I feel it provides a less finesse presentation on the fall and gets bit less in most situations. A pegged sinker acts more like a jig

I guess this is one of those questions like which is best, ford or chevy. No clear consensus. I did a little reading on the internet this afternoon. One guy said he always gets more bites with a pegged weight. Also saw a video where Shaw Grigsby said he did poorly with a pegged sinker when fishing a T in Florida, then unpegged it the next day and caught a heavy stringer. Is now a strong believer an unpegged bait will get more bites, and more fish will be landed.

Thanks for the replies.

Light texas rig, no peg=more bites

Punching it has 2 be pegged

I do not peg the weight on a tx.rig when fishing light grass.
For punching thick grass and pads I use a drop shot rig, 65# braid with a stout hook, and a 1oz or heavier drop weight tied on right below the creature bait. I like that set up better than pegging a 1oz slip sinker to a worm or creature bait.

Only time I don't peg the weight is when fishing rip-rap or a soft clean bottom.
