Is the bass fishing any good at Choke Canyon lately? I mainly fish the salt but my son has been wanting to try some bass fishing so we may give it a shot in a week or two.

Any tips or advice welcome.

Thanks.

It is fishing great for numbers and a great place to take a kid fishing right now. You can catch a ton fishing with whatever you have confidence in for the most part. No need to get fancy if you're just wanting to put fish in the boat. The lake came up 4-5' a couple of months ago and you can fish the flooded brush, or you can fish the hydrilla. There are fish in both. Bigger ones are harder to come by, but every once in a while I hear of some one sticking a big one.

Shawn hit the nail on the head. Lots of little fish to be caught but the big ones are few and far between. Fish shallow for numbers, deep for bigger fish. The big ones haven't quite pulled up shallow. spinnerbait is your friend on that lake.

It's still 19' low. Personally, I will not feel safe running my boat there until it comes up lots more:

I guess it depends on where you like to go. If you like to fish Opossum Creek, greyhound point, or any area up the river then yeah I would use extreme caution. If you are fishing any of the mainlake between Calliham and the dam, you are OK. Once you clear the calliham area it's wide open.
I would stay wide around the first big point running into four fingers.
