My first Gar head mount. This was about a 100-lb fish. It's the one I mounted.

This one was about 175 to 200 pounds. I let it go since I already had the 100 pounder.

Her is the head so far. I cleaned out all the meat and loose skin. I put preservatives in it and will stuff the cavity with fish mount filler once it dries. It's basically just the skull.

This was the smaller one that I caught

You may be right! I am no Alligator Gar expert.

The big one was well over 6ft and the smaller one was over 4 ft. We did some crude measuring. Next time I am taking a take measuring tape with me.

I used a shark rig and carp slabs as bait.

What's the best rig setup and bait?

Nice fish and nicely done! Good job. cheers

Side Note: A good formula to use to get a ball park weight is Girth times Girth times length, divided by 800. Example. Fish Girth is 8". It's length is 9". 8X8 equals 64x9 equals 576 Divided by 800 equals .72 Lbs. This weight is not an official weight. It will be in the "ball park"! Great to estimate weights. thumb

your setup and bait seem to be working great! I wouldn't change a thing
