I couldn't tell it made much difference in the heat of the summer. Just adding a handful of salt for every ten gallons seems to be all i need.

I use the Shad Keeper in a 30 gallon tank with lake water. The tank circulates and filters the water. Shad stay alive all day and even on hot days with no red nosing at all. Haven't tried it without the Shad Keeper. I think it helps to calm the shad. Filtering the water is the most important thing.
