So I recently started focusing more on finesse fishing. I've had success skipping wacky rigged worms under docks to target those big bass that are waiting to ambush smaller fish. Lakes that have fixed docks and are currently at a lower water level provide great fishing opportunities.

I find that using a spinning rod that is in the 6'9" up to 7' with a medium action and a fast tip seems to be the ideal set up.

What set ups and other thoughts do you guys have on finesse fishing?

Sounds like you have it mastered. If it's not broke don't try to fix it. There will be many different set ups out there; but it is best with what you have confidence in and success with. Time spent with your piece of equipment is the best. It just gets better and better as you practice the technique. Hopefully others will give you some incite in some slight differences that may help you, if you choose to purchase a whole new rig.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

I use a 6'8" Shimano medium action spinning rod and a spinning reel spooled with 30# braid and a 12# leader. This rig lets me "swing" or skip the bait under a dock. A 4" Yum dinger on a shaky head has been working well lately.

In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

I go slightly lighter. I use a Diawa Tatula 7' medium light rod with a 2500 sized Diawa reel. I spool it with 15lb power pro super slick. Sometimes I tip it with 8lb InvisX. But .... it isn't for the light hearted. If there is any amount of cover, it's straight braid.

7' m rod, 10lb power pro super slick..I use the yellow since I always use a leader, the high vis helps tremendously while fishing light baits and braid.

I use a 6'6" medium action spinning rod with 15' slick braid, yellow. I do not hesitate to use up to 15# green big game mono leaders. They usually hit it pretty fast after it comes skipping in, so I dont think line size is an issue most of the time.

Sounds like to me you've pretty much got it dialed in. I too have been skipping weightless senkos 15 to 20ft underneath boat docks, because just like you said the water on most lakes is down enough to where its perfect for skipping. I haven't been catching lots of fish using this technic, but the ones I do catch are usually nice fish. As far as your setup practice makes perfect. When you can't get bit fishing this way try a dropshot.Tightlines

The best method I have figured out is to get the bait to swing up an over your rod (creating a circle) and learning to release as the bait comes back around parallel with the water. Takes a little practice but once you get it, its almost fool proof. I haven't been able to get it dialed in on a baitcaster, but I'm deadly skipping a spin cast.
