Hi All,
so sometimes i put on a trailer hook on spinnerbait, buzzbait, etc when i the bass tell me i need to. I always like to utilize a soft plastic trailer on these type of baits almost all the time, so what is the proper rigging of a soft plastic trailer if i am going to incorporate a trailer hook? do i put the soft plastic trailer on the trailer hook?

thanks All

I only throw spinner baits that have a soft plastic trailer keeper. I build most of my spinner baits and love the discontinued Stanley Pro Trailer and so do the Bass. All poured plastic need that keeper spur to help keep them in place. Then you add the trailer hook after the plastic trailer is in place. If the bait does not have a keeper then I would use the double straight tail trailer that is a super hard plastic. They stay up and in place very well. I have a few of the twin tail grub type from the 80's that is a good hard plastic but none are made today. If you are extremely confident in one brand of trailer and it is very soft, then Super Glue may be of some help to keep it in place.

As far as a trailer hook goes. Look for quality spinner baits with the extended shank hook in a 4.0 up to 1/2 oz. and you want need a trailer hook. If they are not eating the spinner bait and only pushing it then several things could be wrong for that particular day. There are other baits to consider when this is happening.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

Thread the plastic on the spinner bait's hook, then attach the trailer hook. You will want to get a style of plastic that won't be impeded by the trailer hook.
