Lew's Super Duty

One of the best punching reels on the market is the Super Duty. It's specifically built for big baits and heavy duty techniques. It has high quality gears and components, it's just a brute of a reel. And it's only $180. I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I know this is likely not your intention but take a look at the attachment I have added here. It describes one very successful fisherman who used a 4000 series spinning reel. Why? Because he can get it into spots easier. And, he can achieve an advantage because he can punch through with a lighter weight since the line coming off a spinning reel is naturally slack. Worth a read.

the super duty and bb1 pro are both great reels for punching! i believe the new wide spool super duty would work just as well!

Curious what a reel matters for punching I would think you would put more emphasis on the rod and line

Ok..I'll go the other direction.

I think a reel that holds 250 yards of ANY line is a waste and inappropriate for a very short line presentation.

I think that a 70 series reel or a "SV" shallow spool type reel, with a really fast ratio of at least 7.9to1 would be better.

Lighter weight, less wasted line, faster allowing more pitches, punches, or flips....and lighter for less fatigue at the end of a 8-10hr fishing day.

Of course these are my opinions.

Spinning tackle for punching?

I used to do this--still use a strong 4000 saltwater spinning reel for large swimbaits; but those reels are heavy and flipping and pitching with them for long periods of time created some tendonitis issues. It is easier to skip and shoot under docks, etc with spinning reels, but it wasn't worth the aches and pains. Works well for large swimbaits--just casting out a long way and slowly retrieving most of the time.

My favorite is an 8-1 high speed Tatula R type. The HS (any brand) gets you some more pitches when dropping a jig all day.

dont think the reel is that important

i use a cheap-o abu black max --i think the emphasis should be line/rod -- i use a 7.7 veritas heavy with the yellow power pro braid --i like the visibility

punching is a close range task ----!

I like any of the Revo's from Abu. I use an STX for my flipping rig.
