I have a question. What are you guys with V8's getting in real world fuel economy in your V8 crew cabs???
I started a new career and need to down size my truck to save on fuel costs and more affordable truck. I don't have a preference over Ford/Chevy/Dodge. To me a truck is a truck i'm not a huge "car" guy. I am wanting a crew cab with 4x4, that can get 20 or better MPG's as i drive 0ver 75 miles per day for work. I am only buying used under $30k up to 75k miles. I drove the 3.5 ecoboost's they are getting 19-20mpg, my boss has a GMC and gets over 20mpg's in his sierra but it is a 2wd. I also hear the 1500 Dodges with 5.7 Hemi and 8 speed show to get 20's on the highway. I tow a 20' basscat and a 32' bumper pull but not concerned about towing MPG's just daily driving MPG's.

I have the 5.7 Vortec Chevrolet and open highway I get between 18.5 and 20.2. City drops to 16. Towing a trailer I get 16 to 17 on the highway.

I have a 2015 Silverado 2wd that I get over 25mpg in the mornings coming to work, that's driving 70 with no need for AC, in the afternoon it goes down to 21-23 with AC and more stop and go traffic. Disclaimer I do not do the math every time I fill up(I did a few times and its not that far off the computer, less than a MPG) There are three settings for the readout last 25 last 50 and last 400 miles driven, I usually leave it on the last 25. My brother has a hemi dodge 2wd and he gets better mileage than I do.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst

I have a 3.5 ecoboost and it pulls better than mine last 5.3 GM. The 2014 2.7 eco are getting around 24-26 mpg.
My stock eco pulls the boat better than the 5.3 with a programmer ,K&N and exhaust- hands down.
picked up mine for $29,500 . fully loaded lariat 4x4 62k miles with a factory warranty being a certified preowned .

Just bought a 2016 Silverado 5.3 and mileage sux 9-10 pulling boat Triton TRX 20. Problem was bought on price not need. Should of got the 6.0 with 8spd tranny. Service guy at Chevy has one and gets better than 14 mpg hauling boat. They said should get better can't understand it, I drive it not pooty foot around. Oh well!!

I buy a truck every two years and have had them all. Fuel mileage on all of them is around 17 and 11 pulling the boat. This was true even for the Power Stroke trucks. The Ecoboost is your best bet.

Think a lot depends on the rear end. I got chev 6.0 and it doesn't pull our bot or camper anywhere near my wife's chev with 5.3. She gets way better highway economy then I do too. Had a '12 tundra and it was worst I've ever had in gas mileage.

2014 Dodge Hemi 8 speed, 60 miles daily 75 mph, weekly fishing trip 75-100 miles round trip pulling Ranger 520Z I average 19-20 mpg. No problem passing anyone while pulling boat. BUT probably one of the highest pickups to insure.

2013 F150 Eco 4x4 and on the highway my best has been around 19mpg. Drops way down towing a 21' bass boat loaded. If I had to do it all over I would have bought the F250. Just my opinion.

'14 Tundra Platinum 4X4, 4" lift on 35's. Average 10.5 combined daily driving, drops to under 9 when towing my 21' ProCraft. I won't drive an Ecoboost so I'm looking at a Powerstroke.

2015 2500 Dodge Tradesman, 6.4L, 3.73 differential, best is 16 non-towing, pull a 35 foot bumper pull travel trailer (10,000 lbs), 8-10 mpg, depending on hills or flat roads.
