What is everyone's opinion on the Transom Saver versus Motor Mate for hauling your boat? I understand that the Motor Mate would be easier on the lower unit, but it sure seems like it will keep all of the road vibration and impact focused on the transom as opposed to the trailer. The motor is a Mercury Pro XS 200.

The Motor Mate has proven to be one of the best accessories ever. It holds your motor rock steady with little to no vibration.

These are a great thing to use also. They keep the motor from trying to wobble going down the road which wears out the seals in your hydraulic steering and the plastic bushings where you motor hinges (not sure of terminology). There are several brands of these clips too. You can also make your own out of PVC.

I'm looking at the Motor Mate and the ProRule, trying to decide myself.

I use the Pro Rule and steering clips on mine. Wobbles and bounces much less than with a transom saver. 250 SHO.

I just use the Motor Mate. Works great.

I have the Pro Rule and steering clips on my 250 SHO because it came from Skeeter like that, but greatly prefer the Motormate and will be picking one of those up ASAP.

I have a MotorMate on my 300XS. I think it performs well. No complaints.

I use the Motor Mate as it hold the engine rigid, eliminated the need for the steering clips.

Your transom is designed to take the weight of the motor. The problem with the transom saver is the trailer flexes as you make your way down the highway and hit potholes or uneven pavement. This puts undue stress on the transom which can cause stress cracks in the fiberglass. Go with the Motor Mate. You will be glad you did.

Being I'm looking at both of these, what is it you don't like about the ProRule?

Steering clips and T&H Motor sticks. Cheaper and same as the motor mate.

Just speaking from experience, I have over 400 hours on my 250 SHO, and the bearings and steering linkage tends to get a little worn over that period of time. While using the steering clips and pro rule, my motor would still have some play in the steering and would bounce around and rock back and forth more than I liked. This is due to the single point of contact on the pro rule. With the motor mates 2 points of contact on the yoke of the lower unit, the motor doesn't and can't wiggle even the slightest bit. This has also eliminated using the steering clips.

Hadn't taken into account the flexing of the trailer. That makes sense. Thanks for all the input.

I used the Pro rule and steering clips until after a 6 hour drive to Falcon. The steering clips had vibrated / loosened the end of the hydraulic steering ram while I was driving and dumped all of the oil out. That may not be the most technical explanation but it managed to work it loose. I was able to fix it and still fish, but I learned my lesson that day. Motormate is the only way to go!
