Does it matter for time of year or not really?

Do you fish only one type? If so why?

I still fish both.

I only fish soft frogs.

Never really tried hard bodies much but why fix what's not broke the soft bodies work great for me

For me the only season frogs aren't an option is dead of winter. I choose solid or hollow by density of cover. If it's super thick I'll throw a hollow body, gives them more of a chance to find it. Same things around isolated shallow cover, the hollow body will sit in the strike zone much longer than a solid frog. Patchy vegetation and big shallow flats are where the solid frog shine.

Here again. I let the fish tell me what they want. They want something different under different weather and cover conditions. If I am going frogging I will have 6 or so tied on or you can use the interlocking snaps for a fast change; but they will be layed out ready for use.

- Dark and light colored walking frog - hollow body
- Dark and light colored Ribbit for the commotion - hard body

Frogs are one of my favorite lures to fish, really top water in general, but frogs especially. I learned frogging with hollow body and then moved to solid body. What I like about Hollow Body is the fact that they are hollow and float. This gives you the ability to pause, let it sit in the strike zone and hopefully entice the bass to strike. I also like them because the varity of colors, trailers and heads is different. You have popping and non popping, skirted legs and imitation legs, and also so many different color patterns and imitations. You can also do some simple modificatoins to these frogs to help with the action of the bait and increase hook up ratio. These Hollow body frogs I like to work along banks and around heavy cover. When you are up against thick grass you can work it just in front, pause it and draw those bass out. They can be worked slow and steady, walking them back and forth and finding the cadence the bass like. You can also work them fast, buzzing them past cover and such.

Now lets not forget Solid body frogs, these too have their place in frogging. You can do similiar techniques with these frogs and I like these frogs becasue of the versitily of the hooks that you can use...You dont just have to stick with what the lure comes with like on a hollow body. You can use an ewg worm hook, weighted or weightless swimbait hook, traditional double frog hook, can even add a trailer hook...This can help when fishing certain situations as well as helping with hook up ratio. I also like that since most solid body frogs sink, you can create a different presentation to the bass since as you pause, the frog slowly flutters down in the water. I like to fish these in more open water and grass flats, even along banks as well if the bass want something different.

Hollow bodies are easier to control b/c they float. Gotta keep the Ribbit style moving.
You did not ask but whether hollow bodies or solid, use braid.

That's a good point brought up, braid is needed when throwing those frogs so when you set the hook, it is a firm set. Now there are times when I will put on a leader of like 15-20lb mono, usually on calm days and fishing minimal cover or open water. Some may say it isn't necessary, it is more of a confidence thing for me.

Try ZMan frog not the popper one. It floats with a 4/0 owner hook and lasts for alot of hookups they really work well for me

I caught my PB (10-04) on a solid body frog (Ribbit), but really prefer to fish hollow-body frogs. I fish solid body frogs mostly in more open water along pad/grass lines and over wood, but use hollow-body frogs in thick pads and mats.
