I have a lowrance elite 7 hdi. Works real well except it now has a problem with the water depth. It just jumps all over the place 15 ft, 1.2 ft 13.6 , 4.5, and on like that. Would the problem be the transducer or the head unit?

Probably transducer. Is it set at the proper angle and tight where it doesn't move up or down?

Not familiar with the Lowrance, but if it has a demo mode, I would look at in that mode and if it looks ok it's probably a bad transducer or a broken wire in the transducer cable.

Is it the digital readout that is jumping, or the actual scrolling depth?

Not the scrolling, the readout that is displayed.

If te transducer, i'll replace it. If its te head unit I'd rather just buy another one. If you were going to replace it what would you go with? Another hdi 7 elite or with a sidescan? Which sidescan?

Probably transducer. Is it set at the proper angle and tight where it doesn't move up or down? If Bobby's suggestion checks out ok, then try cleaning the bottom of the 'ducer. I have this happen infrequently. When it does, I simply hand swipe the bottom to clear it up. This works for me.

If the scrolling is working, the transducer is doing it's job of sending the signals to the unit. If it's the readouts jumping, there is something in the head unit. do you have it on "advanced". If so, take it off. I've seen the "advanced" setting cause this. John

If your current unit does not have SI, now would be an excellent reason to upgrade with one that has it. It opens up a whole new deal by seeing what is on both sides of you as opposed to only what is directly beneath the boat. At any rate, you won't go wrong getting the one with the largest screen you can afford.

Universal Mania is back to $1589 for the Helix 12 Chirp SI. it's the KVD version which has a red button and the same functionality as the regular one. Don't know why the KVD is so much cheaper, maybe because it's being discontinued?? Maybe the other on-line vendors will follow suit. It's hard to justify not buying where you don't pay sales tax or shipping. That just shows how much markup is on this stuff.

well we are gonna fnd out who is causing the problem. I have a new transducer coming. Lowrance says if that doesnt fix it do a hard reset and they told me how to do it. And if that doesnt fix it I can send the head unit to them and they will sell me a hook 9 for.........I forget how must, seems like it was around 379 plus a bracket for 50
but that humingbird 10 helix for 1149 doesnt look too bad
