Just got my new combo in and took some pics to share with everyone. First, I love the classic fast action 844c MBR rods! When the new GLX was announced I had to get one. Spooled a Curado 70 with 15 lbs invisix and hit the local pond. Sensitivity is great! Crisp blank with great balance. Threw a wacky worm senko and swim jig trying different techniques. Truly felt it was on par with my NRX rods. At least first impression wise. Caught a dink so not a real test of the rods power. Still need more time on the water. New Curado 70 balances just before the lock down nut. Esthetically the rod is flawless. I love the new look. Great addition.

Really though...."eh" on the Loomis...seen one ya seen em all.....but, how is the 70 size reel. Seems as though it would be a great flipping reel. I don't know why more reels are not in a 70 size. No need to have 200 yards of line on a reel. I could cast that far if I chunked a 3 ounce weight down wind. Haha. And the lighter spool of a 70 would make it soooo easy to cast and skip.

As far as the rod, I am glad they have kept the MBR bass rods in the latest GLX series. If it is not broken, don't "fix" it. Great classic actions!

it looks like they eliminated the titanium recoil guides, my GLX's date back to 2004, so im probably out of date. With 18 loomis rods in the boat I do not look at / or need new rods.

Yes, no recoil guides. Guides are Fuji "k" frame with SIC rings. The guides also have a corrosion resistant coating. Blank is said to be up to 20% lighter with better balance. The reel seat is also a custom loomis seat a bit narrower than the previous model. I can tell you in hand the new 844c MBR feels fantastic. I have seen the 844c MBR summed up before as, " feel of a mh Rod with the reserve of a heavy." This rod maintains that feeling. Light in hand with power to back up the hook set.

I really like the full rear grip. I wish my NRX weren't split grip.

No. Loomis makes really good rods. They don't fix what ain't broke. Very true. They also do not really try to push the envelope either. That's boring. That's all. Edge made use of some exotic materials to gain well, and edge. Lol. Steez AGS use carbon fiber guides to maximize sensitivity. Megabass makes some very extreme designs on handles. Maybe not to make them better, but to make them functional art. Loomis just builds really good rods. Kinda like the Toyota of fishing rods.
