I fished the Brazos below PK this morning. I managed a few large mouths and whites on a white popper and olive wooly booger. I couldn't find any stripers. I waded downstream and it was still a bit overcast with a slight breeze blowing. I noticed a decent mayfly hatch starting so I popped open my fly box and noticed that I had forgotten all of the new blue winged olives that I had bought recently. I grabbed the closest thing that I had which turned out to be a black parachute. I tied it on and dead drifted it downstream into the rising sunfish. I then proceeded to catch fish after fish. It was during this time that I came out of the zone for a moment and took in what I was watching. My parachute was drifting through the sunlight dappled water into a mass of mayflies skittering across the water only to be snatched brutally by a hungry bluegill. It was utterly enjoyable and relaxing. I know that a lot of people don't really think of catching sunfish as really fishing but throwing a tiny fly and watching them getting snatched and then plucking fish from the water is probably my favorite type of fishing. Simple/relaxing/fun. I came across a fellow fly-fisherman who was hunting the elusive stripers with no luck. I explained that I had just finished catching about 20 sunfish and he said that he hadn't ever considered fishing for them nor did he have any small flies. I handed him my other black parachute and left him to it.

Cool report. If I have to chose between LMB and sunfish. I always chose fishing for sunfish. About half the flies I have are sunfish flies.

I am still part of the crowd that enjoys any gilled creature that'll eat a fly. I'd take sunfish over going home skunked ANY day.
