I am a total rookie when it comes to kayaks. I don't need these for fishing. My wife and I made a trip to visit a friend who lives on the Puget Sound a month or so ago and they had some Hobie kayaks with foot pedals. She fell in love with riding them around so I want a pair for our lake house.

I'm really just looking for a stable kayak with foot pedals and need to longest leg room possible since I am 6'6" with legs longer than normal for a guy that tall. Don't need all the bells and whistles.

Any thoughts?

What is your price range? The foot propelled yaks are a little more pricey than your normal paddle yaks. Highly recommend both you take some for a test spin before you purchase.

Looking in the $2K each range. That buddy of mine bought 2 outbacks for $1800 each but they were demo models which is fine with me.

Check out the Texas kayak fishermen's website. You may have to create an account first, but then you can access their classifieds thread, which always has a lot of used kayaks for sale. Might want to go this route before investing in a couple new $2,000 kayaks.

Yeah, there are always more yaks for sale in the Houston (and sometimes Austin) area, but often a willing seller will at least meet the buyer half-way, geographically speaking.

Chris,

Check with Mariner Sails, they may have some demo boats you can go out an pedal on White Rock lake and they will help you find a good deal on a boat.

A lot of DFW comes here for Kayak sales or craigs list, TKF forums usually cover the coast and ACK forum is the Austin/San Antone area place to look for boats.

Hope your search works out and you get the boats you want!
