thought i'd play with a speck pattern(s) to see if i could get anything close. the coast is calling. these aren't terrible but both need fine tuning. the small jerk bait has too much gold and the shower blow is ok but i over sprayed the back with some detail black and it's way too dark. i used some old d2t that had been opened for a while. i knew better but didn't want to open a new one for this one bait. mr. magoo could see the bubbles that formed while i baked it. hopefully a little sanding and some ac1315 to smooth it out will fix it.

I think the top pattern is pretty damn close. Also, the fish don't mind the bubbles or mistakes. I only fish with baits that I'm unhappy with because I don't mind losing them. I usually just sell the ones that turn out good.

That looks like it could pull double duty as a crappie pattern for summer/fall basin'!

top one matches a speck really well!! they won't really "see" the whole top anyways so I think it will work just fine!!

true enough about the top of the bait. i've got a couple more base coated and ready to paint that i'm going to lighten up just a little. we'll see how the compare.

that's not a bad idea. have to be careful not to use too many layers so the scales don't disappear.
