Motor runs great most of the time, but goes into limp mode at Random times. Now Hot and Chk Eng light stays on. Unhooked temp sensors lights still on. Pulled wires out of six pin plug at motor hooked up ground first lights came on. When first started alarm sounds for about 15-20 secs then goes off but lights stay on. Yesterday after fishin for well over an hour started it up, got on plane and went about a mile. Limp mode came on, engine temp was not hot as I could feel both heads and block without a problem, [censored] stream good warm not hot. After several times of turning key off and restarting it ran great back to dock, about 6 miles. It has cut out several times in the past going across the lake.
New plugs installed.
Water pump replaced.
Sea foam thru carbs monthly.
New fuel filter.
Uses plenty of oil thru VRO.
Compression great.
Anyone got any help!

Make sure your fuel tank is clean. I ran into this problem with my 93 Johnson 150. My fuel bulb went bad a couple of times too. I had to clean the fuel tank out every year. [censored] in the tank was stopping up the fuel pick up. It would die I would wait several minutes and it would crank up and run fine. Gravity causes the particles to fall off the pick up when you stop. Gave me fits for awhile. That damn ethanol is eating up gas tanks like crazy. A lot of the stuff I found in my tank came from the fuel. The ethanol ate some of the gaskets in my gas tank too. When I fill up with fuel I put piece of a paint strainer over the nozzle and its amazing what I find sometimes. I hope this helps,

It does not die it goes into limp mode and will not turn over 2500 rpms. I was thinking the tach was bad but I unplugged it yesterday and it still done it. Checked the fuel filter again today and it's clean. No restrictions in the fuel line. I also cleaned all electrical connections and used dielectric grease on each one.

See how the protection-slow mode is activated by the power pack, I would be checking all wires there. They get easily pinched under the power pack. A fuel restriction can cause the high temp and then the temp puts motor in slow mode.

Well I got the Hot light off but still trying to figure out the Ck Eng light. Replacing all the fuel lines, oil lines, primer bulbs, and hose clamps tomorrow. Hopefully will fix something!

have you replaced the temp sensor(s) that send the signal to the power pack? Sounds like it's sending a false overheat signal to the power pack which is activating the limp mode.

First line:Motor runs great most of the time, but goes into limp mode at Random times. Now Hot and Chk Eng light stays on. Unhooked temp sensors
