In a few situations (shad and bluegill spawns and the late fall shad kill) the sunfish would likely outperform a shad colored frog. Overall, the frog has more versatility (especially a popping frog)

I've fished them a lot. They have incredible walk the dog action. Easily moves left/right with very little forward movement. Bad part is they are not durable. After a few fish the weight in the belly tears out and that's pretty much it. Even tried glueing it back on. That didn't work too well. Also might consider a Lake Fork Tackle trailer hook that's made for frogs. This well greatly help your strike to hookup ratio however it tends to reduce the action quite a bit.
