The Duckett thread and othe comments lately got me to thinking I was in the minority. I buy what feels right for the technique for which I am looking to use my combo. I am somewhat price sensitive when shopping for rods/reels. In other words, I am not that brand loyal... How about you?

I'm a fanboy, bottom contact rods are NRX, moving bait rods are Extremes or Champs, all reels are Shimano.

Prefer same rod/reel brands for consistency of feel that offers.

Most of the major brands have models to cover the spectrum of needs, so I choose to buy the same brand when I shop these days. Mostly because I'm familiar with the quality and the way any issues are handled. This is not to say the only rods I own are the same brand, because like most of us I have been collecting equipment for a long time. I still use rods I have had for years. The rod I use for Rattle baits, I have used since 1987 (vintage Lew's Speed Stick- bullet proof so far lol} and if AllStar still made the Platinum series rods (discontinued in 96(?)) I would have not bought another brand since the 1st one.
Reels do wear out and the technology changes so all the reels I have are the same brand now, even though some are close to 10 years old.

I prefer major brand and try to upgrade but spread out over the year. I've got $40 rods up $300 and $40 reels up to $200. I don't go cheap on the little things tho. Hooks, weight, line and lures. Don't buy off brand plastics either.
