What types of hooks do you like to use on your Carolina Rigs? I've been using Gamakatsu EWG worm hooks, but my hook up ratio seems to be lacking.

I do my best to use a side sweeping hookset but I'll have to admit it might just be user error.

What do you have success with?

Owner J Hooks

I like to use these hooks for Carolina rigging. I went through a bunch of different hooks until I discovered these and I'm glad I did. They look virtually the same as Gamakatsu's but they have just a tad bit wider gap, which seems to help on the hookups. Also, try going up a size in your hook.

All depends on what bait I'm throwing but 99% of the time I use a Owner Riggin hook.

What size hook for what bait? What line/power action on your rod? Maybe you are pulling it out of the fish's mouth. Let them run with it before setting the hook. You want them turned away for that sweeping hook set to really work I think.

I throw a ring fry or bubble fry(whatever you want to call it) so I use a 3/0 offset or maybe something with a baitkeeper. I rarely use a wide gap on a C-rig unless it's a big beefy bait.

Love the hook
But it's too heavy for a lot of baits

That very well could be the case. Was really just wondering what style of hook everyone liked. But specifically speaking, 3/4 weight with a worm, brushhog, or other types of creature baits. Fishing with heavy power rod with braid to flouro leader

Owner rigging hook. It is small and strong.

I like using a round bend offset worm hook for all baits except Flukes then I use an EWG.

You'll see what I use when I beat you in the tournament this weekend!!! duel

I have been fishing 10" worms and Bubble Fries on the same Gammy 3/0 or 4/0 EWG all summer with very few 'lost' fish. Now, I have missed some bites, but once I set the hook I have them.

Using a MH rod, and have had people laughing at how much bend I get in the rod, most of our club I believe uses the H or XH like you... But I doubt you'll find many using braid. With that setup, you might want to back off on the rod power, or really finesse your hook sets, basically just reel into them. Or, you can up to a superline hook and probably increase your ratio!
