I like an offset straight shank hook for most applications. I've been using the Academy brand hooks and they've work great and are very inexpensive.

On a true Crig set up, the hook isn't directly connected to the main line. Add the long cast and the usual deep depth, you are setting the hook from a long distance to a hook off the main line (indirect weaker force). I like a light wire hook that can penetrate with this lesser force. It's a balance between setting the hook too early vs risking a deep hook, but waiting a couple seconds, then reeling into the fish, and then a long forceful horizontal back swing that moves a lot of line on the hook set. Watch what Mr. Wilcox does on Honey Hole--he's known as one of the best crig fishermen.

I too have always used Owner Rigging Hooks sized to the bait I'm using.

For a lure the size of a baby brush hog I use a Gamakatsu 3/0 offset shank round bend hook. For a larger bait I use the same type hook in a 4/0 size.

Bill Wilcox is most definitely the greatest C-rig fisherman I have ever seen.
