Who do you use to purchase and install electronics and accessories? Do you buy online and self install or take it to a dealership?

My plan was to have bass pro shops install my next unit.

I can't remember off the top of my head but I saw some install prices at the tracker marine center once and didn't think it was too expensive.

I might be getting ripped off though, lets see if anyone else has some good input. popcorn

You gonna be better off doing the install yourself if possible. A lot of the big marine places don't exactly do a proper install. They cut corners and you may not have any problems for a while but it will show up. If you really want someone to do the install for ya there are several individuals here on the forum that know how to do it correctly.

I install all mine. I get one or two a year to test and always do it myself.

Yeah this is what I'm afraid of... I already have a transducer ran (for an older unit from the early 2000's), so I might end up doing it myself just to make sure proper care is taken.

I do it myself. It isn't hard, just time consuming

I roll my own. I completely rigged my Seaark CC when it was delivered simply because I had a predetermined plan on where everything was going to go and what size wire I was going to use for everything.

I paid to have my first two done. Then I got brave and installed he most recent one. Wasn't as bad as I thought and linked my two units too!!! If you're not familiar with wiring you're better off getting someone to do it for you and learning as they install it.just my opinion. All in all it's easy if you know what you're doing.

Some can install themselves, and some just "slap" it on. I have gone behind, individuals, marine dealers and shops to correct the install on electronics. I've seen things such as the wrong wires being spliced into, overloaded fuse boxes because "it's just a hot wire" or "any ground will work". Transducers mounted in the wrong are because it was the easiest place to get to, no covers where the wires enter the boat, front mounted units connected to the light wires on aluminum boats -- because some aluminum manufacturers don't run extra wiring to the front and individuals don't know how to run the proper wiring to the front. My only advice is to discuss the person you're going to get to install with your buddies and get suggestions (which is what you done with this post). There is more that goes into a proper install than can be done in a couple of hours, especially if you're planing on networking units.

I've seen a lot of what you described. I'm in the marine industry, just the big cruising boat part of it, and some of the things I've seen done by owners just make me scratch my head in disbelief. Unknowing owners can create some real electrical nightmares.

If you have to ask the question, you need a pro to help you out. It's not as simple straight forward as it may seem. For example, interference problems can be a nightmare.
David, at Shut-up-and-Fish has been doing this for many years and only recently opened a shop to do installs
for people. He does all major brands and can match or beat anyone's prices and uses most everything he sells as an avid crappie fisherman. I've known him personally for years and would highly recommend him.
just my 2 cents worth

Here's a second for David from Shut-up-and-fish. Good guy, clean installation.

Another recommendation for David at Shut Up and Fish. One stop shop.

If you want a professional job at a reasonable price have Lake Fork Electronics do the install. We also sell all items, ask about price.
