Decided to try Whitney Friday afternoon about 2:30. Launched from Loafers and started by checking the South side of the island. Marked a few fish in about 25 fow and saw a bunch of sandies sitting on a small ledge. Nothing outstanding so I moved to the North side and saw several suspended as well as big groups on the bottom. First pass picked up a 28 incher. Went back thru and got another 26 pretty fast. The fish were big with aggressive strikes. Moved around and checked the points on the NW side and found them again. Fished from about 2:30-5:30 and boated around 15-20 stripers. Biggest was 28 down to 20. Ended up with 5 keepers from 28-24 inches. Found it interesting that I didnt catch anything smaller than 20, big fish day I guess. All were in 18-28 fow and the down slopes of points. Marked alot of sandies on the bottom but didnt fish for em. 5 inch swimbaits on a-rigs, To the guy from Burleson send me a pm and Ill send you some info on those...

Good report. Have been fishing Whitney a lot lately but targeting sandies. Next time will have to break out the swim baits and go for the stripers.

We're you down rigging those a rigs? I trolled hell pets on Sunday afternoon around the island and caught 15 keeper sandies and two stripers. Monday I caught live bait and had a limit of stripers in just a few minutes on the south side. One 30 inches and the rest 22/24 inches. Only picked up a few sandies trolling after that but had to leave by 10 o'clock.

Wasnt using a down rigger just moving them slowly little above bottom. Went yesterday from 330-600p and got 12 more biggest was 27. I looked a little on the South side but found em again on the N and NW side around 20 ft on sides of the points. A few sandies on top just sporatic though

So y'all fish multiple 5" swimbaits? I bet that takes a pretty rod/reel setup to fish? I am sure it works, but my elbow hurts just thinking about working that rig. Thanks for the answers

There are some that are 4" up to 24". 4,6,8" are castable. Those larger are usually trolled on 50 lb test or more. I use 100 lb braid to troll them since they are so expensive. Couple of weeks ago at Amistad we trolled 4 rigs at one time. Once we had 1, 2, 3, 4 striper on all 4 rigs at the same time. It was exciting.

Yea, he is right. I use at least 50 lb braid on mine. I you try to throw those big rigs you will get worn out in a hurry or a broken rod tip..
