Anyone ever used any of the minnow dyes on the market? Thinking the pink or chartruse would be fun to try for Crappie fishing. Any brand recommendations or input from those of you that have tried this?

There are actually several makers. Not joking. I guess you don't use more than 1 color bass fishing at Fork? Like my question stated, looking for input from Crappie fisherman who have tried them.

Tried the pink one time with no real results. There is a minnow species that is pink and used to get them when I was a kid (40 years ago) and they were great then.

Rosie Reds. In the early spring in heavily stained to muddy water, they can be deadly.

I have never used the minnow dye, but don't think you really need it in all honesty.

I was catching crappie on a 1/8 ounce pink jig head with no plastic on it simply tipped with a minnow up on Ray Roberts this Summer.

You can add a plastic of your choice and still tip with a minnow as well.

I wanted to see if they would bite with just the jig head and the minnow with no plastic on it and they did.

As far as dyes go...I pretty much dip the tail of all my plastics in Chartreuse Spike it right before I start fishing at the beginning of the day and it is a staple on my boat.

I dip the tail and fish all day without dipping the plastic again...until I need a new plastic and then I will dip the tail of the new plastic.

Good Luck with trying to get your question answered.

I was simply passing along my opinion.

HOGON, do you use the spike for the scent or color, or both? The bait I've been using lately has a Chartreuse tail, so not sure why I'd need it, except for the scent.

RODS454,

I have plenty of baits that already have a Chartreuse tail and I will still dip them in the Chartreuse Spike it.

It is for the scent mainly and it is very powerful. If the tail is already Chartreuse your not going to hurt anything by dipping it.

For my plastics that don't have a Chartreuse tail like a Crazy Angler Blue Boy, Thermocline Black Emerald Shiner, or Bobby Garland Blue Thunder they do as soon as I dip the tail. I've actually dipped a Crazy Angler Blue Boy the entire bait and it was green...it still caught fish.

Then I commence to Slinging Slabs in the boat.

You don't have to keep dipping the plastic.

I dip it before the first drop and will use it till my plastic is toast and then when I replace the plastic I will dip it before I start fishing again.

If I finish up for the day with a good plastic then when I come back to the lake whether it is tomorrow or next weekend then I will dip it again before first drop.

I buy the Chartreuse because that is my personal preference being that a lot of my plastics don't have a Chartreuse tail yet.

However, they have it in clear as well so it is just whatever you decide on personally.

You aren't going to hurt anything by putting your Chartreuse tail in Chartreuse Spike it.

Good Luck!!

I prefer the bottles of it to the spray and pens.

Be very careful when using not to spill it on you unless you want to smell like a pizza all day.
I treat it with kid gloves so to speak.

Once you use it and see the results it will probably become a staple in your boat. thumb

If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask,

They also have scented markers. Less chance of a mess from a spill and much neater.

I've had a couple of mine over 5 years and they still work.

Yeah get with Todd...be sure to ask about the minnow only tournament circuit he is putting together.

The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?
