maybe I can get a little help here??? I have a new hd12 and hds9 on the older lowrance models it was just plug and play and never messed with any of the settings, are these new one the same or does anyone modify the settings to get a better quality picture..

Auto setting is the worst setting to set it on if you are looking for a true reading that is not false returns. All the guys that are good at reading graphs and use them like they should be used dont run in Auto, and the settings are fine tuned. All the graphs come from the factor with the same settings doesn't matter what Gen model.

Lots of people have different settings that they prefer/use that gives them the advantage they are looking for.
There are several tutorial videos on YouTube you can check out.
If you were closer to me, I wouldn't mind helping you out. These are great units and I personally wouldn't use anything else. Good luck!
