Does anybody use this on an Ipad or tablet for mapping. Im just wondering yalls thoughts. $50 dollar app looks a lot better than a new graph at the moment. lol.

I actually used to have my Ipad mounted to the dash of my FX20 Skeeter to use the app due to all of the features the app can do that can not be done on chartplotters. It worked great, I used the lifeproof case with the lifeproof cradle to mount it to the dash of the boat using the hole from the flush mount unit that used to be there. As an added bonus, it was nice to have music and weather available too on the Ipad, which now weather is actually on the Navionics app.
Worked really well and the glare was not near as big of an issue as I originally thought it may be.

For those of you using a graph also, how accurate have you found the navionics to be? I used it for the first time this fall on my home lake in MN that we know like the back of our hand and the map was off a hundred yards or so to find humps. If I was using navionics alone I would've been bumping a 20ft deep flat way off the hump we were trying to fish. This is about a 250 ac lake in the middle of nowhere, so I didn't know if the data was more accurate/updated for the major reservoirs here.
There are no fish in sonic pond EDIT: Except 1 20lb catfish

I haven't done any serious testing but looked from my phone a few times and it definitely seemed off.

Was out on Lavon this morning, fished next to an old culvert sticking out of the water that was marked on navionics. The GPS showed I was on top of it and I was probably 50 yards away. I think it's very valuable for new lakes finding new water or general places to start scanning, I can't rely on it in my float tube though to position me over depth contours or structure that's marked.

I use it at home to review places or to get a general overview of a lake I have not been to before. Example: never been to Lake Waco. Sitting in my office I could develop a strategy prior to getting on the lake. The result I knew what I was going to do before I arrived and caught fish right off the bat. Could have done the same thing by standing at my boat in the driveway looking a Lakemaster on my unit but it was much more relaxing in my office.

I run both Navionics on my iPad, connected to bow mounted Raymarine Dragonfly, and Lakemaster on my 899. Sometimes the Navionics is more accurate, sometimes the Lakemaster. And I mean on the same lake. Neither are perfect.
With the iPad connected to the Dragonfly it allows you to create custom charts in real time. They call it SonarChart Live. I can do the same thing with the 899. But I have to process through a PC before the chart is usable on the graph. Yes I know that the new Birds have Autochart live. Right now I am not fishing enough to justify replacing a 14 month old graph.
Either way, what you get from the "custom" charts is always significantly different than what you get with the prepackaged charts.
I suspect that if the amount of data required to produce a "perfect" chart of even a medium sized lake would be simply to intense for the current technology. Or it could be that the data available just hasn't caught up with the technology that now exists.

I have Navionics on my iPad and iPhone and use them both to increase my knowledge about a lake. They will get me in the general area of specific structure but I had to search using my graphs to pin it down. The biggest complaint I have about the Navionics apps is that they only support 200 waypoints and that's not nearly enough for all the lakes I fish.

I do what Fishking does basically. I also use a regular lake map / Google to identify spots I want to fish the day before; save screenshots of the sat image and the coordinates to my phone and then go fishing...then plug'em into the finder as I go to a spot. This seems to work and no risk to damaging a 400-600 dollar pad or have a need for cell service on it. I've been researching chips for my finders, but so far, I'm just not seeing any huge advantages; seems like distractions more than anything. I'm definitely open to hearing what the advantages are though.
