I've never really thrown a frog. What's your opinions on fishing one in a lake like grapevine with out any vegetation?

What type of frog are you referring too?

You can get a really good "walking the dog" motion going on hollow bodies in open water, but my favorite technique for open water would be to use a Horney Toad (soft body) style bait and reel it fast across the surface similar to a buzz bait.

Might take some patience and commitment to the frog, but if you throw it long enough, I've seen big monsters come and grab it in deeper open water. Cloudy days help. If it's windy, I prefer a popping frog: calmer conditions, regular frog.

Probably won't get you numbers in open water, but be ready for a big one to snatch it.

--Grapevine does have decent vegetation is some areas.

Try the bronze-eye shad I have caught some good fish on it. It's walk-the-dog action is very good.

You can catch bass on a frog in open water; however, it is not the best lure for open water application. If you want to use a topwater in open water, a popper or walking type bait is much more successful.
