I'm building a house and will be looking to purchase a boat, possibly a new boat. My question is what is the average length of a boat and boat trailer to fit in a garage with a swing away hitch or regular hitch to the very end of the motor. Thanks

I have a 20 ft garage and my 17.6 fits pretty snug...id say a 18 would probably be max. Ill add some pictures of the trailer, its not a swing arm but its a stubby!

What kind of boat do you want and what type? I have a 17'9" Nitro with a swing away and my garage is 22" deep 2 car. Boat just fits.. With that setup i wish I had a 30' 3-car garage. My buddy has a 21' Skeeter and his garage is at least 40' 3 car(it was built for a big ski boat). He gets one car and the boat in there.....

Make your garage 25ft long and that should cover most boats.

Okie Poke is right, just make the garage 25 ft. I have a 20 ft boat and I put mine in the garage kaddie cornered with the from at the door and also have a 6 inch jackplate on 200 horse motor.

My ranger is lil over 27' from tongue to prop. Now, I could drop motor down & use swing away tongue and maybe make it fit in a 25' garage without going kaddie corner route. But if you can afford to build larger, GO BIG! You'll be thankful to be able to just back that baby in & drop it.

I built mine 24 x 36. I wish I had gone 36 x 48. It can never be big enough.

That's the same size of my shop. 24x36. I back my boat in to where the door just clears the tongue which gives me just enough room to get other stuff in /out the back roll up door (lawn mower, etc.)

My garage is 25'x 20' with an 18' door. My RANGER 521 fits in fine with the swing away tongue. Also in the garage are two bicycles, John Deere riding mower, push mower, yard cart. I don't have a fridge or freezer in the space built for that so I put the shop vac, small air compressor, power washer, weed eater and edger in that spot. Can still fit my F250 in there too. Still wish I had built bigger!

If you can afford the extra cost, you'll never regret having at least a minimum of 30 feet.

I agree with a bunch of the above. Within reason, no matter how big, you will wish it were bigger. Stuff has a way of accumulating and taking up space you hadn't figured on.

I built mine 24 feet deep at the lake, with the engine trimmed down, detachable tongue , and pushing the front over to one side my 21 footer will fit, barely, probably not going to put it in the garage much, sure wish i would have gone to at least 26 feet.

If you go too big, it will kill resale of your home. Most women do not bass fish and like to buy living square footage in a home, not storage sq footage. Now if you don't ever plan to move, then I'd say build it 40ft.

I just bought a 21' Ranger, with trailer and engine it is right at 30' long.
Don't forget to add extra wide doors too, not only are they long they are wide!
Wish I was into boating and fishing when I built my house. My garage is not even close!

Check the Ranger and Bass Cat web sites. I believe they have overall lengths listed. A swing tongue is a huge help.

If you can swing it do a 30ft deep garage. Mine has more. Behind the boat is a great place for tackle and other boat items.
