Caught 124: 120 sandies to 17 inches, 3 nice yellow bass and an LMB.

While my boat was still on the trailer from the Lake Livingston trip, I took friend Paul on a trip to Tawakoni yesterday. Expecting light north winds we launched at Holiday Marina about 8:45am but discovered lake was rough due to higher winds. So we worked our way across to the east side of the lake where there was some protection from the wind. We started on the dam end and checked shallow structures and the deeper drop-offs around them. No luck finding fish. Working our way northward up the east side we didn't find fish until Sun Point. Caught about 25 there. Caught about 25 more at Cloud Point.

Last spot was the hump by the pump station north of the bridge. I had marked a spot on the hump where we had done well during the June tournament. They were still there in even greater numbers. We sat on that spot and caught them for a couple of hours - and almost all were 14 to 17 inches in length (I measured 4 at 16.5 inches, one at 16.75 and one at 17 inches). Hooked on to a keeper hybrid there, and he pulled me under an obstruction. He rubbed off as I tried to pull past it. Just before time to go they slowed, and we looked around on the hump and found another bunch. Caught about 10 more out of that school, then about 4:45pm we had to stop and head home.

We tried both #2 and #4 Mepps and caught all but a couple on #2.

Observation: At both Cedar Creek and Tawakoni this year the fishing has been poor down near the dam. I'm thinking it has something to do with the water chemistry in that part of the lake, but maybe somebody else has a better explanation.

Wow impressive Twok report, DC! We missed ya yesterday. Fishboy Frank joined me yesterday and we fished hard but only boated 25 fish from 7 to noon. Most of those were early bites on plastics (grubs, small sassy) and mepps #4 at Finger point. We went looking but didn't catch much after that. We ran into several convoys of trollers and they grind hard but put netted good fish in their boats. Saw all the well known guides out yesterday. Did'nt go up to GPS due to limited time otherwise we run into you. Left my #2 mepps rod at home and my #4 caught half of my fish in 5 fow. Yep the twok sandies were all tournament worthy yesterday. What a great lake! We caught 10 hybrids/striper but all were 17 except for one. Heard today is very slow?

Greenville pump station paid off again...
Good place to pick of sandies and the occasional hybrid

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach
