You could put the remote in there. Hang that around your neck. Now it's waterproof.

Good subject though Ernest.

I wear my life vest the entire time I'm on the water.

Those that don't are rolling the dice. Things can happen in a split second out there as we all know.

Remember Keyboards story where he jumped for his boat and missed.

Just saying...

Be safe!

Good call out, Ernest. I will usually not use autopilot around stumps but seems like I get more clumsy every trip and one of these days I'll probably take another unplanned swim. Wonder if David would waterproof test some remotes and give some feedback! LOL. No, surely the manufacturers have that information available somewhere and the approximate range they will work in. Next to fishing, getting back safely is my second goal every day.

I agree. This is the best option. I've fished alone many times but starting to rethink that even at my young age of 59.

At 72 and fishing alone most of the time I totally identify with Ernest on this. I haven't gone overboard but came VERY close a couple of years ago. Did not have a self-inflatable at that time. Last Fall my wife made me get one. I am glad she did because I know how quickly unexpected things can happen. And for you younger guys, don't think you're bullet proof. It can happen to you. Saw an article that said if you go overboard with even a slight breeze, within 5 - 10 SECONDS your boat will be too far away for you to reach it. Even for a good swimmer.
OMG hooked

Love the thump.

Last winter I was a Squaw , bumped a stump , foot slipped on the deck button and relocated the guard to on all the time , fell in head first about 10 ' of water , by myself except for my dog , came out of water like a moby dick , boat kept going finally getting hung up at tree , swam to boat climbed in trolling motor still running until I relocated the guard , was wearing a life jacket . The guards on both switches have been removed .

I like to fish alone for the peace and quiet. Wearing my PFD was a promise I made to my wife so she didn't have to worry all the time I was gone. I haven't fallen overboard yet, but I'm pretty sure it will happen at some point. The thing I worry about most is ruining a set of hearing aids. Very expensive loss, should I fall in! eeks

The Xi5 is not waterproof to the level that I would trust my life with like in Ernest's scenario. I was once putting in condos in the water and the remote went underwater for a minute and I had to take it apart to dry it out before it started working again.

Wear a PFD and tie a rope to the you and the boat at least you will always be a rope length away.
