I have a couple of Questions about fishing the Paluxy. I have most of the week off and thought about heading out there one day. I have been looking for possible spots using google maps.

Is there parking near the crossing for county road 1001? It looks like there may be a place to pull over and park but im not sure about the land owners near there.

Has anyone fished the river in Glen Rose over near where Grand Ave turns and follows along the river? Is it worth trying?

The old, running joke on the Texas Fly Report (God, I wish I'd bought that site from Alex) was to standardly reply with "there are no fish in the Paluxy".
Historical retorts out of the way, my limited experience with the Paluxy has been that, as a completely wadable river, if you don't like the fishing, simply wade upstream until it gets better.
Of course there are good, bad, and better spots. But keep in mind that it's hard bottomed, good wading. At least it used to be.

Access to the Paluxy is limited. Last weekend I attended the Reel Recovery Retreat in Glenn Rose and went down a day early. I drove to Dinosaur Vally State Park and walked along a hiking trail until I found secluded area of the river to fish and had a blast. Bass and sunfish everywhere. It did cost $7.00 to get in, but there were restrooms,water and relaxing atmosphere to fish in. You can stay in the high dollar hotels on the river and get access to the river too.

I just ended up going to the state park today. I have a state park pass so it cost me nothing. There was some kind of cross country thing going on so I had to dodge runners to find parking. It was relaxing to get out there once I did. I forgot how much the Paluxy reminds me of the hill country. I found a couple of good spots and had what would have been a new personal record bass on a fly. I had it within a couple of feet of the rock ledge I was standing on and it spit the hook. Anyway here are just a couple of pictures from today.

What a great day and awesome pictures! Glen Rose is a special place with a lot of fun water. We really need to get a park pass; talk about handy.

I'm heading over to the Paluxy for the first time in the morning. Probably going to fish in the park. Gotta break away from the ponds and get in on some of this river fly fishing.

I hope you had better luck than we did this morning. The water was colder today than it was on Monday. The fish were really inactive till around noon. We fished from 8-2 and only got about 6 very small green sunfish.

Ended up with eight sunfish, two on a Llano Bug and six on a soft hackle as part of a hopper-dropper rig. Was slow but the river was really nice.

A drifting yellow llano bug worked for me. Any movement at all and the fish wouldn't hit.

you can hit the BBQ joints when the fishing slows and then everything will be OK

We ate lunch at the Green Pickle across from the old courthouse. The burgers were excellent. I did see several BBQ restaurants. Any one in particular you recommend?

Roadrunner smokehouse is open thur-sun. Hammonds is wed-sun. I think.

Thanks. Got out to the Paluxy again this past Saturday but had to be back in Dallas early in the afternoon so I fished from sunrise to about noon and then got out of town without stopping to eat. Got one bass to bite right at the crank of dawn but then didn't get any other bites until after 11 a.m. Like last weekend it seemed that the fish took a while to get into the feeing mode. Ended up with two bass and four sunfish, all were caught on near deers minus the last bluegill, which came on a foam hopper.

I accessed at the state park. Hiked up the river until I was pretty much secluded, then fished my way back. For the most part, everything caught was on a popper. The dinosaur tracks are those of the ornithopods.

Headed back to the Paluxy on Saturday. The water was a bit higher and muddier and was running a bit faster than it has been because of the recent rain, but the fish were still biting. Ended up with three bass, two longears and a green sunfish. Did notice that downstream from the crossing I was fishing at the river bottom turned from rock to soft mud. Maybe a coincidence, but I caught all my fish from areas with the hard bottom and didn't even get a nibble from areas with the muddy bottom. The first five fish in the video were caught on near deers and the last on a purple soft hackle with a gold bead fished under a hopper.
