I am trying to transfer waypoints to my computer from my HDS7 gen 1. It appears the data is on the SD card, but when I open it up, there is just gibberish characters and symbols. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

What program are you using to open the file on the SD card? When the wpts were exported from the unit to the SD card, what file extension was used? .gpx or usr v?. Then we'll go from there.

Thnx for the reply. usr and I don't know if I have a program to open the file. I just assumed my software would have one.

What software are you using?

You should be able to just save the waypoints to your computer for safekeeping.

Its possible that you will need to convert the waypoints to a different file format to open them in your software.

windows 8.1 and Adobe Reader. The waypoints are on the SD card, but my computer can't convert them to a readable format. The output is just characters and symbols.

Adobe is of no help.

Follow below and you will get what you want. It is one of several ways but I am simplifying based on the easier approach IMO.

Presuming you haven't removed wpts/trails from your unit, resave the file to the SD card in .gpx file format. ".gpx" is one of the file extensions on the menu when exporting. As an aside, I always suggest using .gpx as it is the universal file format.

Go to EasyGPS and download the program. Instructions are on this webpage. Note where you have placed (Folder) EasyGPS.

Now execute EasyGPS. Click on File, Open, and then navigate to the .gpx file saved on the SD card and click on it.

There you go...

Depending on what you want to do, this can get complex and complicated.

UJC,

Thanks again. Problem solved. I downloaded EasyGPS and then discovered I had previously not selected .gpx as the format.
