So I need some help kinda. I work in San Marcos and there is a decent sized pond close to where I work. Here is the issue, I get off at 1100 pm. Im wanting to fish tonight but have no idea what species to target, what patterns or colors to use, or if I fish the flies differently that I would during the day. Can someone help me out?

First thing, and this might not even be an issue, but are you experienced in night casting? Because it's different. Fewer or no visual cues. Just be prepared for different. Now that I've addressed what is probably not an issue, I'll offer my tips. Noisy, popping, chugging, gurgling. Night time hunters are targeting sound. As for species; LMB, and don't be surprised if a catfish hits your fly. They hit top water frequently after the sun sets.

I've never casted at night, aside from drunk in my front yard Lol. But does it matter what color of popper? In my box right now I have chartreuse, neon yellow, and black. I also have some large beetles and hoppers. As for streamers, would brightly colored patters work well?

Throw your black popper at night.

Not sure if I caught this to late but Robin is very right watch your head if your not used to casting in the dark! Most of my fly fishing for trout is in the dark and that is when the Giants feed. For where you are targeting bass and with this front go sub surface with the biggest streamer you can throw that moves a lot of water! Bunny hair really good for this it really comes alive in the water. Fish slow and mithodicale right along the bottom and hold on. Bass are feeding up now before winter I've caught a few decent bass in my time to know a little bit. Good luck and let us know how you do

A good headlamp with red lense is a must. Won't spoke the fish when it hits the water near as bad. Also dosnt attract bugs nothing worse than gnats.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

I've been throwing poppers at night on Lake Fork all summer from my kayak. I use green LED's they don't seem to attract the bugs quite as bed. I agree with noisy but dont be afraid to try a sinking type bait like a crayfish - something with as much mass as you can handle and fish it slow around structure.you might want to use a heavy leader 17-20 straight mono is what I use. Be ready for the big boys.

Another option is subsurface flies that push a lot of water; the fish won't have a bit of trouble finding them. Often you will set the hook "prematurely" with a popper at night, LOL.

Sorry I am just getting back to ya'll, I've been extremely busy. Anyway, i tried it out and i threw poppers, big bulky streamers, even a mouse fly. I caught one sunfish and that's it. I'm pretty sure its my presentation though. It is soooo hard to do it at night. I couldn't see my fly or where my line was, I kept getting hung up in the reeds, and I even smacked the back of my head with a popper, lol. i think i will wait for a full moon next time.
