Where's the worst place you've had a hook in you? When I was a kid my grandpa was casting a rattle trap and rared back to cast and sunk it in the back of my head. Felt like I got hit with a baseball bat. Had to cut the hooks out. I remember my uncle getting mad because I was wearing his hat and they had to cut it too lol.

In the calf. Rods were tied down on deck and I fell over board. Hung upside down trying to get to rod.
Almost bite the dust that day.

Back in the day when Big O's were the greatest crankbait , my buddy and I were fishing out of his 14' Gregor aluminum , the newer baitcasting reels were just getting to market and we both had Garcia 5000D versions , had to throw them really hard to get any distance , he ended up putting both treble hooks deep in my forearm , we had no idea how to get them out and the fishing was good , took a pair of pliers and just ripped out the hooks , blood everywhere , no first aid kit . Kept on fishing and getting them , he had to switch to a spinning rod as the backlash was so bad he had to cut out all the line.

this is what a yellow magic does when it goes through your finger !
made it to the age of 52 without this happening ---crappy part was that there was a fish on the front hook and my finger on the rear
i slapped him between my thighs to keep him still !

i now pay much more attention when lipping a fish on these type baits

Hooked in the lip! It sucked I was by myself and couldn't see it!
Made for interesting and painful hook removal.
Didn't help that both hooks from crankbait were buried.

I set the treble hook on a catfish and it jerked loose and hit me on the face. It embedded two of the the three barbs in my cheek. I was alone and had to drive to the emergency room and get the hook carved out by the doctor. That smarts!

Religion is a guy in church thinking about fishing. Relationship is a guy fishing thinking about God!

My dad snagged my right cheek and then set the hook before I could grab it. He set a Little George with trebles so deep that we had to make a visit to the emergency room in Cleveland to have it removed at 2 am.

My nephew hooked me right behind the knee in the tendon. normally I would yank it out myself but this one hurt like the devil stabbed me with his pitchfork. ER trip and $400 bucks later it is just a bad story.

Dad hooked me in the back of the head while gar fishing when I was about 8yrs old.

Worst had to be having one hook of a rattle trap buried past the barb into the top of my thumb with a 5lb hybrid on the other hook flailing around like hybrids will do. I had my prospective brother in law with me, the first time we'd fished together. I cut the hook off, ran it thru, and bandaged the wound with tp and electrical tape, then went right back to fishing. He commented later that he thought I'd be going to the ER, and since I handled it the way i did that he and I would likely get along great. I laughed. He and I are still friends today even though he and my SIL are no longer together.

Calf with a Zara Spook. Fishing alone and It took me 20 minutes to get it out. 15 minutes of thinking about it and five minutes to get it out.

Hula Pop R in the web between my right little finger and ring finger. Only took a minute this time.

Hooked 5 times. Two required surgery.

One had a 20-lb lake trout flopping in the boat while one hook was in my hand and the other in that bugger.

Worst one is funny in a way. While landing a Muskie, the lure broke and with the rod loaded, one half of the lure sling-shorted into my palm. Giant Muskie lure trebles buried deep.

Here's the funny part. When I left the ER, the doctor gave me a numbered certificate. Number 256 hook removal so far that year. There were hundreds of lures hanging all over the ER Rooms all taken out of people over the years. This was in the heart of Muskie country in northern Wisconsin.

5/0 stainless ..3 hook kingfish leader.. One hook buried in my finger other 2 hooks in the fish. Big old doc had to push with both hands with all his weight to get it through.. I think it went through the dang bone.... Saw some pretty neat tricks.. I work in e.r. In Aransas for 15 years.. Lots of hooks and stingrays.

Lake Fork. 2012, 3rd cast of morning throwing a Spook. Very low light. I hung a small limb and tried to pull it out... it came out like a rocket right at me. As it came screaming in I turned so to would hit me in the side. Well i almost made it except for the last treble that decided to bury 2 hooks up to the shank in my patella tendon...it was locked into place... no wiggle at all... Couldn't bend knee without hook scraping against bone in knee... that was a fun drive to Winnsboro hospital...

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways with a fishing rod in one hand, 10# LMB in the other, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and yelling "Wow! What a Ride!

A boat idled up to us fishing a tournament one day and the guy asked if we could help him out. He turned his head and had the back hook of a half ounce rattle trap buried in the cartilage of his ear. He said he tried to get back to the ramp but when he got on plane and it started flapping in the wind he just couldn't stand it. I was nice enough to get in the boat with him and cut the barb off and pull it out.

Okay, I have to admit this pic is not of me, however I felt this pic has to qualify as the worst hook up I've ever seen in over 50 years of chasing after jaws...

Well I'm not sure my story is the worst, but at the time it was horrific. This happened when I was around 13 or 14 years old. I grew up in a neighborhood that had 3 ponds connected by dams which flowed from one to another. I was really lucky to be able to fish as much as I did and went most days after school. After fishing my backyard pond I had progressed to the second one. While walking the bank I found a Red/White Heddon Lucky 13. This was a huge find for me, as my arsenal just grew! At this point I had caught a few 2-3 pounders and was ecstatic. The time era was pre-80's and I was rocking some really short cut-off jeans. Sounds odd now but then it was not. Obviously, I couldn't cast and make tracks so I put the back treble in my jeans. Hindsight huge mistake!

I made it about 15 yards and the back treble sunk about 2 inches below the boys inside my thigh. The next step proved to be worse, as I hung that "Lucky 13" in the other thigh about 1 inch above the other thigh. Now you have to understand this is pre- cell or anything other than your voice. I am now about 10 yards from any trees and cant put my foot down. I hopped the distance each time bringing tears to my eyes. Once I got to the tree I still couldn't put my foot down, but at least had a leaning post.

All I could do was yell for help. This went on for 30-45 minutes. Finally someone came down and found me. This was a nine year old kid. I asked her to send their parent down to help me, and told her to call my mom. My dad was out of town. At this point I am about to pass out! My mom was working and it took another 20 minutes to get ahold of her.

Finally she shows up with a pair of needle nose pliers. These are most likely mid-sixties Craftsman as that's what my dad rocked at that time and hadn't traded them in. Cut like butter is not how I would describe them. She ripped and tore the best that a 120 pound woman could do on spent pliers. Each time I thought kill me I have lived a good life! Growing up with water in my back yard since I could walk was enough.

Well the pliers didn't work, and as time grew more people came home from work. Well this is good and bad. Now I am the story of the neighborhood. Side note: Get the F'ing hooks out, or at least one, remember I cant put my foot down, or laying down if I move a fraction of an inch I am getting hammered with that decision. Finally the home owner comes down when he is off work and cuts the bottom treble with bolt cutters. At this point it only could have gotten worse if I was laying in a bed of fire ants.

From here we get in the Datsun 280Z to the emergency room. The Doctor actually laughed when he saw what happened. Time from hook set to time of removal (4 Hours). I wasn't laughing.

I am sure there is much worse, but all I can say it was a bad afternoon for me!

Buddy and I had snuck into a great area on the White River in Meeker, CO. It was winter time and everyone had left the property because they didn't plow the roads. Snow shoed in and fished all day having great success. We were about to leave when we heard snowmobiles coming.

Started to run for the trees and all of a sudden I heard him start cussing. Turned to see the Panther Martin spinner stuck in his cheek bone right below his eye. It was buried deep in the bone and it was all I could do to get it out with needle nose pliers. We packed the area with snow for a few minutes and he didn't even feel the barb rip his skin on the way out.

Very lucky he didn't get his eye.

In college I buried a 3/0 gamakatsu worm hook into my forearm. I was trying to pull the lure off some cover and when it finally came off it was headed straight to me. All I could do was turn and let it hit. Unfortunately it hit just right, and a pegged tungsten weight carried enough momentum to bury it in there. I pushed it through but wasn't strong enough with my non dominant hand to to anything past that. The barb wouldn't mash good enough. It was april fools so the 5 people I called thought it was a joke and hung up on me. I ended up having to drive back to the dorm and knock on random peoples doors until someone could help.

Not 6 months later at a tournament on fork I got hooked again. It was day one of a 2 day event and it was only 8:15. I caught a dink and while I was trying to get it back in the water I dropped him. He pulled the crank bait into my thumb and commenced his hissy fit. My dad, not knowing what to do, opted to laugh as I was battling to catch this fish to unhook him from me so I could then unhook myself. The hook must have gone right into a nerve cause my arm hurt all the way up to my elbow. I finally got a hand around this fish, and my dad said I was squeezing so hard it's eyes were bulging. He helped unhook the fish, but wouldn't do the line trick, so I had to do it to myself. Didn't finish too well in that tournament, but did fish the whole thing.

Over the years I have gone twice to a doctor to get hook removed. I was fishing a trout stream near Cherokee, NC (on vacation) and got snagged on a tree across the stream. Yanked it off and the mepps spinner came flying straight back into my forearm. Could not get it out and gave up to go to doctor. My dad drove me and we went to an acute care office, but they said they would not treat me because I wasn't a native american (Cherokee is on an Indian reservation). The lady at the desk was cringing as she said that and told me to go to the local hospital. So went to ER and doctor did great job of removing. The lidocaine shots hurt more than the removal. I told the ER doctor that it was one of my best trout lures but he wasn't impressed. I still find it funny but my wife not so much.

It was a different world when we were boys and girls....

Being in the fishin' biz for so many years I thought I'd seen some...stuff. Many times as I've been hooked and seen folks what got hooked, and a few good ones, none comes close to some of what's showed up here.

Makes a person wonder if they shouldn't give up such a dangerous, unpredictable hobby an' take up somethin' safe like flyin' in one of them body suits or free divin' in caves.

I jes' remember my female coworker, normally tough as any guy, tougher, nearly fallin' out when I made her push one of them 5/0 worm hooks through my upper arm so's she could hack the barb off'n it. "Doesn't it hurt?"..."Why hail yes it hurts, just do it!" It got me like the one in Wormdunk's awesome pic, but in the arm and into the meat.

A fella just can't appreciate how tough his own skin is until he's gotta do something like that or have it done to him. Even a good fish hook don't go through so easy.

So I think about that an' read these stories....uuuuhrrrrr...makes my spine tingle.

Luckily I've never been hooked! I guess I'm just a careful angler by nature!

I did go out one time with two buddies on a john boat. One thought he had a bite, and pulled his pole so hard that his rooster tail came flying back like a bullet, and hooked my other buddy in the head.

The treble hook was hooked into his skull!

But a couple dozen wiggles later, we got it out. Unfortunately he didn't want to fish after that...

Realistic, multi jointed, bubbling, gurgling bait? I think so!

been hooked a bunch of times. no biggie... usually!
I remember a few, though.......
1. Arkansas, 1994. the dimwit son of my boss just HAD to show me how well he could pitch a
Snag-pruf frog with his new shimano. he did great! right into my left shoulder! worked it out, but it took an hour. lot's of you know how big that ole double hook was on those lures.
2. Mckinney- stonebridge ranch (before it got popular) winter '99, fishing a big fluke, set the hook close, it launched into the tree above my head. second jerk created a 3rd, with a 5/0 gamakatsu in my side. quick push-thru before it started hurting. no problema!
3. Scat Cat 2013, 160 miles offshore, middle of the night, pitching boat, wide open tuna bite. Had to re-rig. Went upstairs, boat lurched, I planted my hand on a bench, right into a 3/0 Owner ST-66 treble hook (have you seen one of these?) straight into my palm. twist n yank
out of pure reflex & it was done. won a $45 "worst injury" jackpot on that one.....
4. 1987, offshore (again) in SoCal. Wide open yellowtail bite, haul back & cast my 6oz Salas
metal jig with a little too much line off the end. damn near knocked myself out when it hit me in the back of the head at full speed. jig swung over & smashed out the glass lens of my new $120 Vuarnet Tortoise-shell wayfarer's.... hooked in the top of the head, thru my hat, no less.blood everywhere. what is it with scalp wounds? they bleed like crazy!
Another yank-n-pray, some peroxide & paper towels, back to fishing. had to fish with no sunglasses for the rest of the trip! got 3 stitches from a deckhand back at the dock.
that hurt more than the hook.
Still pretty sure that 13/0 circle hook in the neck beat all those, though

When I was young I was standing behind a kid throwing an inline spinner the treble buried in my head less then 1/8" away from my temple. More recently a crank stuck in my finger

I had the back two hooks of a shedog buried in my shoulder, didn't hurt too bad until I popped the hook out of the muscle and it was till stuck under the skin. That's when I had to sitdown to take a "breather" lol

My buddy and I were in Guerrero on Falcon, chunking those big [censored] SK bottom dweller spinnerbaits (1 1/2 oz.), both of us on the front deck of the boat. He took a big old backswing and sunk the trailer hook into my right temple. And then he yanked on it. When he turned around and saw it hanging out of my head, he started laughing and dropped the rod. Line went tight and it yanked on my head again. Hurt like hell. Fortunately it wasn't past the barb.

A few months later, his son paid him back and did this to him...

I wasn't hooked, but this past spring, another buddy of mine Crappie slapped me. Dorsal fins hurt pretty bad when they stick you.

Basically, this is what I did immediately after reading this thread and talking about it at work. Pitched a tiny torpedo into the canal for a peacock bass (what I play with at the farm, and it is legal) and then stuck it in my middle finger. Had to push it through, cut off the barb, etc. Painful to the point I was afraid to reads this again....

Had a treble hook buried to the bone in my left index finger a few years ago. Fishing a Zara Spook and caught a dink. Went to lip him just as it decided to start shaking like an Eskimo. I was fishing alone so I had no help. I basically had to squeeze the fish to death to keep it from shaking. Finally got the fish free and cut the hook at the bend. Drove home and iced it down then jerked it out with a pair of needle nose pliers. woot

Back in the day, RT and I were fishing on falcon... I was throwing a squarebill and hooked into a fish. Mind you we had been fishing maybe an hour. The fish jumped and spit the squarebill... RT dove under the trolling motor and I put my hand she in front of my face... well it hit me in the face on my chin and below my ear. Needless to say it took a trip to the clinic in zapata to get it removed.. all the while RT was sitting the parking lot of the clinic enjoying several cold ones... the doctor loaded me up with novacaine and pushed the trebles on through... we were back on the lake within a couple of hours...
The picture still pops up on here time to time.. the squarebill was the white and purple RC 1.5

Every time I read these I feel like it sealing my fate of something unfortunate in my future. But then I think, I've had 3 bad fishing hook incidents so surely nothing else will ever happen like that again right? 3 has to be kinda high in a lifetime so no way there would be 4.

Worst place i been hooked was in a church one evening.

Second worst was lip. Bout jerked my lip off trying the string trick. Perfect afternoon fer fishing. Had to get off Rayburn to get to dr before he left clinic for the day. Uncle had to pay. I had been telling him to watch his back cast. Huge backlash too. Ha. Served him right. Felt like i got bat in the face when that Lucky 13 hit. Thank you Jesus it wasnt an eye.

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

Teach a man to fish, he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.

I had a 2 oz slab buried in my scalp past the barb and the point stuck in my skull far enough there wasn't any way to get it out besides just rip it back the way it went in. Buddy cut the slab off and the rest of the treble hook and we just kept fishing. At PrimaCare, well after dark, the doc wanted to know why in hell we waited 6 hours to come in and I told him cause the fish was biting. He just shook his head.

That one wasn't too bad but I saw one that had to be the most painful thing imaginable.
At Roaring River Missouri they stock trout in the little log dam pools down through the park and when the horn blows in the morning people are shoulder to shoulder. This lady managed to sink one of those little gold size 8 aberdeen trout hooks right into my friends dad through the little part of his nose that separates one nostril from the other. She went forward with her pole and never looked back.
She just kept jerking on it. Finally he hollered loud enough to get her to quit jerking and it was an easy removal but that is a very tender part of your body. Only one other place on the male anatomy that might be worse. If it had been a man instead of a woman who kept jerking on that rod, that riverbank would have been plumb vibrating with all the cussing he would have been letting out!!

Put a yellow magic in my calf on a hook set at Lake Gilmer. My son just looked at me and handed me some pliers and said the bass are schooling and we are not leaving. He hooked a 6lb bass while I was getting the courage to yank it out. We caught some nice fish but got blood all over the carpet. Good memories...now.

It wasn't me but the worst I've seen was a guy who ended up with a 1/4oz bullet weight that buried into his arm. Hook didn't get him but the weight did... you could see the line going into and out of the hole and the weight under the skin.

Hooked myself several times unhooking fish but my biggest catch was when the wife and I were dating...I had a fish come unhooked while fighting it and my Pico pop came back and hooked my future wife in the nose. I couldn't get her to hold still long enough to push it through and then I started thinking about if I was going to scar her up with hook removal. Didn't want to marry a woman with a big scar so, off to the ER we went.
She carried the hook in her purse for several years and still has it in her jewelry box. 29 years later, I still hear about it.

Back of the head with a tiny torpedo as a teen, sure was fun at school with a big shaved patch on the back of head. I guess that what you get with 4 people in a 12 foot Gamefisher casting at a school of bass.

Managed to run 4 barbs off of 2 treble hooks on a heddon torpedo through my thumb. Had a 3ft or so longnose gar still on it too. I was alone on the bank and had to walk a 1/4 mile back to the truck with the fish and lure still on me to find my wire cutters to deal with em. Still managed to have my best day ever catching gar on top water.

You beat me to it, but then again, I just joined.

I've never been hooked too bad, but I did get hooked in the thigh once and had to push the hook through and clip off the head.

I much prefer the fishing line thumb pressure method to that!

In the forehead with a weighted frog. Worst part was my partner snapped the line on the forward part of the cast. He asked if I saw where his bait went, I couldn't answer because I was laughing so hard.......When I looked up my hair parted and he realized where his frog was.

Been hooked in the neck. About 1/2 in from the carotid artery. No pain from the initial hooking. Surgery and a bunch of scans were required to pinpoint the exact location of the hook. I have a pretty nasty scar from it that wont ever go away. I've also been hooked about twice in my fingers and once in my back. Those were pretty easy to take out.

My upper lip and back of head. It amazing how far human skin can stretch when trying to push a hook through. Lol. I don't need no stinking doctor
