Looking for your opinions or ideas. I currently have a tandem kayak (Perception Rambler 135), but I am having trouble with it's weight (74 lbs). So I am in search of something tandem for my daughter and I to fish from in the lakes and smaller rivers around DFW. Trying to find something that is tandem, but may still be easy for 1 person to handle. Something less than 74 lbs. and possibly under $500.
Love to hear your ideas on what you think would work best. Want something to fish from, but space to possibly take my daughter camping.

How old is the daughter? I've seen 8-10 year-olds paddle small kayaks 5-8 miles. Maybe you need one for you and one for her.

She is 13 and perfectly capable of paddling her own kayak as she owned a 10ft yak herself. We just prefer something we can do together. Plus it is easier to transport just one vs 2. 2 yaks is an option, just looking for another option oit there I may be missing.

Probably depends on the age and personality and skill set. My daughter did an all day, 13+ mile fishing and paddling trip at 11 years old. In her own Dagger Blackwater SINK kayak. She enjoyed the freedom.
I haven't looked at a tandem in years. Maybe a place like Bass Pro shop would be somewhere to start.

I would think it's time for her to stay in her own kayak.
Not sure you can find a tandem kayak smaller than what you already have.

The only tandem that comes to mind under the 74 lb weight is a native ultimate but that is no where near your price range. You could also look for a used canoe for a good deal.

MIght want to look at the Lifetime Manta 10ft. That thing is stable, and.can hold up to three people. I rented one this past weekend because I couldn't take my kayak with me. It's very stable, I was able to sit sideways and fish with my feet dangling in the water. Here is an Amazon link. Although I always recommend buying from forum sponsors to keep the forum bills paid. Lifetime 90118 Manta Tandem Sit on Top Kayak with Paddles and Backrests, 10 Feet, Yellow https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004EEKCVK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_VC0cyb6046DZX It can be had for less than $500 if you shop around. Click the more buying choices in the link above to see what I mean.

+1 on the lifetime manta. 10ft. 2.5 tandem at 74lbs. Slower than slow, but extremely stable. Purchased mine from sports authority for $399 years ago. There are several threads on this kayak on TFF kayak and kayak DIY sections
