Had the HONOR to fish with yet another SUPER Flyrod angler. Allen Hunter AKA Hunter498 came in from Huntsville TX his home town and fished the day with me. We started at sunup and fished up till 3pm. We started fishing Lake Dunlap and fished a couple of spots. The bite was slow and we picked up a couple of nice Bluegill and that was it. We then headed to the Cibolo Creek and the first spot we fished at the bite was "ON FIRE"! We caught good quality Bluegill,Redbreast, and a couple of Bass. We also caught several fat Rios with only one being in the 9" range. Allan used his four weight flyrod the whole time and I was using my trusty ultra light spinning combo.Allan decided to try another area of the creek. Allan found a hole holding some nice Hybrid Sunfish. He caught three half pound Hybrids in a row. Allan even called the second catch by seeing two nice Hybrids showing interest in his bait. He then said "come on take it" and then bam he caught a nice fish. Allan was able to catch a nice Hybrid Sunfish that was 8.25" in length with a girth of 7.60". The fish was taken to a Texas Parks&Wildlife Certified Weigh Station and it's weight was .57 Lbs. This fish will be the pending Hybrid Sunfish record for the Cibolo Creek in both the Rod&Reel weight section as well as the weight record in the Flyrod section. Paper work and photos will be sent to Parks&Wildlife. I really enjoy watching these Flyrod Anglers fish. They are always changing out baits and trying different tactics to catch fish. They really work for em. We had a super lunch at the El Charro Mexican Restaurant located in Schertz TX. We ended our fishing day by hitting the Comal River where the bite was slow. We managed a nice 4 pound bass. Making a new friend and watching him catch a RECORD fish! It just don't get any better! fish

I had a really special day yesterday meeting a friend and going fishing. If you know or have friends that brighten your day or just make your whole day hanging out with them you will know what I mean when I say this. Chuck (a.k.a. Banker) is a quality person and a guy that will brighten your day just hanging out with him. We caught fish yesterday and that was the bonus to a great day. His attitude, knowledge of the fish and advice are top notch. I dont think I have ever met anyone that teaches what he knows as well as Chuck. I cant wait until the next trip to hang out with my friend. I want to say " Thanks, Chuck for a great day and I cant wait until next time".

Congratulations Allen on your two records. Nice fish. Looks like you guys had a blast. That creek seems to be a great fishery. I have never seen a bad report from there. Allen did you use any top water flies? How were the results?

Chuck: What is your take on Crescent Bend? Fishing pressure, condition, etc?

I did use a few poppers but ended up catch most on a sinking fly. The bite I think was more of a reaction bite than a feeding bite!!

Thanks Hunter498 for the info! Looking at the records section on the Parks&Wildlife Web site there are a lot of open fly rod records across the State! Hope you get a few more! Again congratulations on the two you just got on the Cibolo.

Crescent Bend has always been a good fishery. During the spring through the fall months you can usually find a good quality of fish. There is a lot of fishing pressure on that part of the creek. The pressure is only going to get worst as more and more people are moving into the area. As long as people respect and keep the area clean generations to come can enjoy it! thumb

Nice fish Hunter498. Congratulations on your records! Nice job on the fly!

Side Note: What color fly? Also was the bite aggressive? I usually use my 3 weight when fishing Crescent Bend. Great spot to fish. woot woot

The small yellow popper is a good fly, but I have had the most luck with a small sinking fly. The Rios have a small mouth and it seems they like a smaller fly!

Thanks for the reply! The Rios I have caught this year on the fly had a very light bite. I was using a small sinking fly chartreuse/yellow in color. Pretty good results. Going to use some poppers this weekend!

The Rio bite all year has been a good one. Their bite has been extremely light. Really had to do a lot of "line watching"! hooked

It's still a very light bite. Caught a few yesterday and you could barley feel the bite. Had to watch the line movement. hmmm
