Got my new rebuild done on my power head. New pistons, rings and bearings. Took the boat out for the first time yesterday. Started up just fine. Drove for hour with no issues. Shut it off and fished a brush pile for 30 minutes. I then started the engine with no issues. When I tried to get on plane it would bog. pushed in the key and the bog went away. This was happening on my last engine and need to get to the bottom of it. Going to call the shop day and discuss it. What could cause this?

Most likely low fuel pressure.

I am changing out the fuel bulb today with a OEM one. Also changing fuel filter. When the problem happens again I will check the fuel bulb to make sure it's still hard also. Where can I get the best deal on a fuel pump?

What type of Motor you got Gonzz? I had this happen to me once and all it turned out to be was a $2.00 rubber vacum diafram @ the Carburator.

I got a 97 Johnson 225 Venom. I just bought a new fuel filter and fuel bulb. Going to install after work and lake test it again this evening.

Installed a new fuel filter and OEM fuel primer bulb and it did the same thing. If I put it in neutral and rev the engine 2 times then put in gear it will get on plane. Going to order a new fuel pump in the morning. I will receive it on Saturday and install and test it on the water Saturday afternoon. I'll keep everyone updated. Thanks for the info so far...

You might be chasing a ghost. I have seen motors act like this until the piston rings properly seat, especially after a re-ring. Also on the throttle linkage, where the cam follower roller connects the cam of the throttle linkage needs an air gap or about a 1/16th gap at idle. # 48 here: http://www.boats.net/parts/search/BRP/EV...0225/parts.html

Thanks. I'll check it after work. Do I check it while it's running at idle? I just ordered the fuel pump. I'll have it on Saturday.

If its bogging and you hit the choke and picks up then is lean at off-idle or mid range transition.I have had to re-jet the the air bleed jets like say 2 to 4 jet sizes down to fatten it up a tad. OPTI

Got the fuel pump today and it's installed. Ran it for 15 min in the driveway. When I took off the plastic cover that the fuel pump connector is under I found a wire that was not plugged into anything. It's a green wire with a male end. It's the second plug from the bottom. Plugged it back and off to the lake to test it out...

Pull the fuel line going to the VOR and check for oil traveling back up it. If it is you will have color of oil in the fuel. Check the vent on the main oil tank. If not the vent, the check valve in the bottom of the VRO is not holding.

I changed the jets on the intermediate jets one size from 030 to 029 and it was worst. Pit the 030 back in and will go back to the lake in the morning. No oil is coming back up it.
