Last Saturday October 15th, the American Cancer Society in association with the Ray Hubbard Bass Club held the First Annual Fish For A Cure Tournament on Lake Ray Hubbard. This was a benefit tournament to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Months of planning all came together on Saturday and we were rewarded when 62 boats came out to fish with us! The weather was very warm and the wind blew hard all day and that can make moving around difficult on Mother Hubbard. The reports were a lot of small fish caught but keepers were much harder to find. When we settled up at the end of the day, the team of Brian Fox and Wes Price took home the $3000.00 dollar first prize with a five fish limit weighing 18.68 pounds! The $500.00 big bass prize went to the team of Garrett Macias and Bobby Finta with a 6.64 toad. Here are full results and pictures from the day. The weigh in area was decorated for the occasion Scott gauges how many tanks he needs by the number of boats entered. We were happy to see so many. The life of a TD when the boats are on the water consists of a lot of waiting. Scott Gordon brought his entire first class operation out to Bass Pro Shops in Garland for our event. Thank you Scott! The wonderful folks from Texas Nameplate set up a booth to showcase their products which include standard and custom measuring boards, and custom graph mounts among many other things. Check them out! Arie Curtis from the American Cancer Society is in the center of the picture. She is flanked by ACS volunteers Ginger Hutson and Brandon Stiver. Thanks for all their hard work! First to the scales was RHBC VP Preston Smith. A long tough day on the water yielded one keeper. Keepers were scarce for a lot of people on Saturday.

Here's a solid Ray Hubbard chunk. Ronnie Manning and Capp Peace weighed three for 8.64. Here's Capp with their best fish, a 3.72 Since when does the TD get to pose?! A four fish bag was good to have on Saturday! Matt Martin and Derek Eggerstedt weighed only two, but they were good ones weighing 7.22. Matt and his wife Tiffany donated prizes for our raffle as well. Thanks Matt! RHBC members Vince and Harrison Burt had three for 7.38 Brent Gandy and Tracy Lange weighed one fish but she weighed 5.11 Ray Hubbard regular Shon Stovall weighed five for 9.69 A limit was something to be proud of

Another limit weighed in Brian Brooks and James Sharp just missed a top 10 finish with five for 10.82 This is the team of Ian Fellenbaum and Clayton Tubbs. They weighed three for 11.62 and this was their kicker, a 5.90 Finishing seventh was the team of Garrett Macias and Bobby Finta who weighed three for 11.45 but that included big bass of the tournament of a 6.64 pounds. Sixth place went to RHBC Tournament director's Dale Rettman and Kelly Millhollon who weighed a solid four fish bag of 11.78 Finishing fifth was the team of JD Yarbrough and Rodney Hines. I'm not sure how they made it past my camera without a picture with their fish, but we have one of them with a check

Finishing fourth was the team of Craig Martin and Randy Leonard who weighed a five fish limit for 14.12 pounds with a 4.15 kicker. Finishing just a tick ahead in third with five fish for 14.15 was the RHBC team of Thomas Ross and Blake Holder. Thomas has a special guest on stage for the picture. Finishing second was the team of Kevin Weiss and Jim Harcrow with a solid limit weighing 16.00 pounds. Their kicker fish weighed 4.81 Here are your winners! Brian Fox and Wes Price with an outstanding limit of 18.68 pounds. No giants in their bag, but five big chunks. Congratulations guys! Being nicely rewarded for a great days work. Three tired people at the end of a great day. Myself, Arie Curtis and RHBC Treasurer David Simmons. Thanks to both of them for so much hard work put in since May when Arie came up with this great idea. There are so many people to thank that I'm going to do a separate post. Please read it because an event like this cannot happen without them. But I would be remiss in not thanking the great Scott Gordon for his talent, knowledge and expertise in guiding us through the planning and bringing it all in tied with a bow. Thanks also to Ryan Niemeyer and Bass Pro Shops in Garland for allowing us the run of their facility. If you didn't fish with us this year, plan to come out next year because we will be back bigger and better! See you then!

Thank you Tom for inviting me to be a part of this amazing event and for the kind words! I have hosted many high profile charity and special benefit tournaments over the past ten years and this event greatly exceeded my expectations in every category possible. I want to commend you Tom, David, Russell, and all of the team that worked so hard behind the scenes that made this inaugural event an incredible success! Lastly, my heartfelt gratitude to each and every angler that came out and supported this event as well as the entire Ray Hubbard Bass Club! I am already preparing for this event next fall!
