Hello All,
New to the forum and I have a question about the trout waters on the Guad below Canyon Lake. I would really like to check out this stretch of water but I have also heard of the challenges people have accessing the river due to all the private property along the banks. Would any of y'all be open to providing some pointers on where to access this stretch? Looking to make a day trip in November while visiting the Austin area.
OK, NM and AR trout are cool but I'll bet the TX trout are cooler!
Thanks!

I think if you join the texas hill fly fishing club you gain access to some private property

Trout Unlimited out of San Antonio; I believe they have access to property as well.
Tight lines.

Access is actually great. The State of Texas leases several sites where they release trout for the public free of charge. There are several other campgrounds that charge around $10 for day use. If you join the Guadalupe River TU lease access program, you will have access to around 15 locations where GRTU release their trout at.
When in November are you going? Since all the rain a lot of the cold water in the bottom of the lake got released early in the summer the river warmed up and very few trout likely made it through the summer. GRTU has not released their trout yets this year and won't until the river cools down. The State of Texas should post when they will be releasing their trout. If you can, you should to wait till late Nov, GRTU should have released their first batch by then. The avg State of Texas trout is 10" - The avg GRTU trout around 15" with some 20"+ trout usually mixed in.

Here's a link to last year's access points: Lower Guadalupe Free Access PointsTexas Parks & Wildlife will start stocking trout around mid-November of this year, maybe earlier. At that time they'll have an update on the free spots.

Thanks for the great info everyone and I appreciate the heads up on the conditions Texjbq. I was planning on checking it out in late November after the Thanksgiving weekend so I'll keep an eye on the stocking dates until then.
