I can get 8-10 miles to a gallon I'm thinking if I was out there in that thing I could drive right under the rigs. 24 gallons of gas and a 40 hp motor. 1 battery. 1 solar panel and a good bilge with a 2 inch pipe going to the outside. And a paddle

I'm waiting for the thread about taking an 8' bass buggy offshore.

I wouldn't try it without a 24v trolling motor. An spare battery wouldn't be a bad idea, either.

Here's the first question...
Have you EVER been offshore to a rig?
Have you ever rolled in 5' seas fighting a pop up storm between you and land?
When that oil tanker rolls past throwing a ten foot wake, what's your plan?

I think getting to the end of the jetties might just change your whole outlook on offshore boating.

Just because your thinking it...

Doesn't mean it should happen.

Man up. Fight the GOOD fight.

I knew a girl who paddled off High Island to the short rigs (6 miles out) and back in a kayak.

I caught a 55# Wahoo 12 miles offshore of West Palm Beach Fla. in a 11' Del Quay Dory with a 25 Johnson.... I was 15 years old. Not saying it was a wise decision ... but I did it.

Not the boat but that's a 11' Del Quay Dory

Nah not worth the risk or the reward for that matter. Find a buddy with a boat or get a guide.

You could do it long as your huge b@lls sit low in the boat for ballast.
