Hi guys. I couldn't find the "proper" place to post this, so I put it here. I have a "new" antique Johnson motor and don't want to run ethanol fuel in it. I heard there is a place on hwy 377 that sells ethanol free gas. True? I am in Argyle, so location is important. If not, is there a fuel additive to make the gas resemble 1956 leaded gas?

Thanks for the website. Being in Denton, it seems Gainesville is my only choice. I have a 6 gal tank, so it would be worth it to go there(30 min away) to get the good gas and mix my oil.
Thanks a bunch!

I had a 1955 10hp Johnson for about 5 years. Ran ethanol with fuel stabilizer (Sea Foam) and good oil in it with no problems. Just change the fuel hoses and put an inline filter. Do you have the 6 gallon pressure tank and two line hose? I found the old two line hose at a boat parts house off of 35W close to Seminary South. Don't know if it is still open but he had every functional part for my motor. Even the gasket that went between the tank and fuel pump assembly. He had points and condenser, carb kit, impeller, the gasket for the fuel tank and the two line hose. My lower unit was leaking water and replaced the shift shaft seal and another seal in the lower unit. Found those parts on iboats.com.

I did get the 6 gal tank & two line hose with my purchase of the motor. The connector that connect the hose to the motor was leaking. The guy I bought it from gave me a name of a guy on Ebay that services that part for $20. I mailed it off to him. I would love to know the name of the guy in FW that has parts.

Oh yeah I had to replace those two O rings in the connector also. I'll look for the place where I bought the parts and post it.
www.iboats.com was a huge help. Their forums for OMC motors has some old pros on there. I learned a lot from that web site.

Do you run additives to offset the problem and have adequate in line water separators?

It's just a matter or time before the use of ethanol in any carbureted motor will be a problem.

I strongly recommend either non-ethanol pump gas or aviation gas that can be bought at any local airport, that will most closely resemble the gas any outboard built in the 1970's or prior was designed to run on.

Grew up on Tawakoni and Texoma before hybrids and stripers existed on either.

If most any of the merc, evinrude and other major brand motor owners had regularly performed and competed their proper recommended maintenance on their older motors, then E-10 will not harm their fuel lines, seals or other fuel components..... Fuel lines and 100% of the replacement parts have now been ethanol compliant for many, many years...since the 90's at least.

Those blaming ethanol for their fuel system related engine damages likely already had very old fuel components way over-due for replacement and never did their required maintenance on their motors.

Now, if your motor is old enough it was designed for leaded gas, non-ethanol fuel alone is not going to help you.
