Planning a fishing trip to the Austin area and this lake is closer for me. Can I hear about the fishing and is there hydrilla in the lake?

Haven't been there in a few months. Last time I was there fishing was SLOW. They killed off all of the milfoil but there is/was some hydrilla around the dam. I don't know if it's still there though. If I had to bet, I bet they sprayed the hydrilla too, but I could be wrong. Docks are a good place to start. If you cover enough you can get a pretty decent limit. There was a tournament a few months ago out there where the pattern was skipping docks with frogs and people were smoking them. I don't know if that pattern has held up or not. You can always skip them with a jig or senko and get bit. There's always some grass down deep but it gets beat to death by other anglers. If you find it you can be assured that it's been picked over. There are some good rocks up in the river that usually hold fish too. A square bill or medium diving crankbait would be your best bet. Hope this helps you out.

If you find your way to Travis I cannot stress the positive activity the lake has seen since the last front...both my and the wife's thumbs are bleeding and sore that's such a good thing! Not finding that many Guads but the LMB's are crazy feeding right now! We are finding most of our fish along ledges and steep drops...16' thereabouts. I cant do that well on boat docks at all but others may be? If you can catch a cloudy day don't be afraid to toss a top water ALL day! Sorry cant help on LBJ but just a few mile downstream Yikes its been a long time since Ive seen fish turn on like this!

Tons of Hydrilla on the lower end near the dam, and in Horseshoe Bay.

Kent, I appreciate the info at Travis. Actually, my 6 yr old grandson lives at Lakeway and I had considered tent camping at Sandy Creek Park. My boat is only 16' so I avoid the big part of a lake. Sandy Creek looked on the map like it would be a better choice for a small boat and a crankbait is a better choice for my grandson. Then I heard good things about Lady Bird and that made me think about LBJ ... it's the closest.
