Why does this yellow wire on the old ignition switch have the disconnect? The wire is longer than the rest also. I can't think of any reason to have that disconnect there. Thoughts?

I am installing my new ignition today. I guess I need to grab a splice disconnect then? I don't know jack about what you just said. Haha

I read your answer a couple times and I see what you are saying now. I just can't imagine ever actually needing to do that.

only thing i've come up with is a "remote" choke/enrichment button with tha tha purple for power on one side and yel/blk (harness only side) and/or powers a small 'lectric pump that (also primes fuel system at same time tha enrichner energizes) replaces tha "bulb"? .. no one has really ever gave me a "good" answer for it though!.. might not have ask tha right person yet?.. donno?

Good point. It's a shame there aren't product knowledge experts like in the car business. The building of vehicles are also much more controlled and monitored.

Is that a "disconnect" or a really high amperage diode?

I have seen this splice connected to a remote kill switch. They had them a few years ago that would kill the motor via a sensor that connected to your life jacket and when you get over 3 or 4 ft away it would kill the motor.

Gary, thought that to first time saw i it but after 'bout 2 seconds don't see how.. any number/type (1 ta 101) kill switches added would hafta be wired in parallel in tha black/yellow circuit.. its YELLOW/black tracer, not (kill circuit) BLACK/yellow tracer.. one end is in tha key switch and tha other is either taped and covered up in tha harness at tha male end on efi's or terminated at the enrichner/choke on carbs.. only powered (completed) at switch when key is on and pushed.. if that wire kills it then some jack-wad has had his fingers in it cause merc didn't do it........... jmo

Yes those same sw. are used on many different 2cycle not motors.
