I was fishing for striper on Amistad this past weekend, and saw some boats anchored in a group. I assumed they were fishing for kitties with rod and reels, since there were several trotlines in the area, also. They had moved when we came back by, so we decided to see what structure and fish might be there. An old creek channel meet up with the main channel and it had 91 fow with trees. We marked some very big fish in those trees. My question to you is do you fish that kind of structure and depth for cats? Thanks!

If I can see fish on my electronics I will fish for them. I caught a bass in 60 feet deep water at lake fork one winter on a little George. Now I do realize this is the catfish section. I do not fish for catfish in January and February because I prefer warmer water and more active fish. I do not target blues and need to learn to fish for them.

Wow! Optimus Prime, That is a big blue. That is what those guys were targeting, I'm sure. That is like dropping squid down to big snapper! We dropped some slabs down, but got hung up pretty quick in the trees. Luckily, the lure retriever worked to get them out. We decided it was too much trouble fighting the trees. Besides, our tackle wasn't what I would consider practical for that type of fishing. It would be fun to try it sometime with proper gear though. I'll wait for an invite from someone who is rigged for it. I already have too much $$$$ in striper rigs.
trlrman, yes rough canyon area. I don't know about the windmill flats part though. It was my first trip there and I saw a lot but there is too much to learn in the short 3 days we were there.

I believe big blues would be on the bottom. Stripers and hybrids like to hang out in the tree tops

I know sometimes you catch big blues suspended. We've caught them out of crappie brushpiles.
