Well yesterday a friend and I decide to go to benbrook like we have been doing 2-3 times a week after work to progress our learning. We fished about 20 minutes until being yelled at to come help a guy drowning. We pulled our lines in quick and shot over there to help. There was a frantic kid demanding we dive in and get his friend. I threw him a life jacket since he couldn't swim very well it looked. These guys were of course just "having fun." We were the only boat there and about 10-15 people on the banks. The water was 15 feet deep and really clouded/dirty. I put on a life jacket and so did my friend and we gave it our all trying to find the guy before the divers/search crew came. Sure was very sad and exhausting. Im trying to make this story short, and mainly my point here is to bring this to attention and REMIND EVERYONE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT GO IN WATER THATS NOT CLEAR WITHOUT LIFE JACKET, PERIOD!!!! I argue all the time with my brother as he dives in a lake when he gets there, with no life jacket, freakin stupid. Anyhow this is all still fresh and just again PLEASE people wear a life jacket.. PLEASE.

The young guy I guess decided to swim across instead of walking around the bank where his other friends were. So So sad and of course his friends were devastated. I wish this never happens to my family what I witnessed first hand yesterday. Of course tragedies happen but man o man to be at the lake and then bam, lost a friend/family and can't find em in the water. literally sickening. Affected everyone there of course. Me and my friend were exhausted trying to find him and felt helpless when being told by the rescue crew that we couldn't help anymore.. Prayers for this family and his friends. God bless us all. Tough tough day at the lake.

If you have something negative to say then go ahead but just know that it will be disregarded and a waste of your time. Please pm me if anyone happens to have a working att phone
I THINK I HAVE A PHONE SORTED OUT, AND THANKS TO THE TFF AND ITS MEMBERS, THIS REALLY IS A COOL PLACE FOR HELP AND FISHING TALK.

Such a sad situation for anyone to drown like that. I am a decent swimmer but I highly doubt that I could rescue someone in a situation like that. You would literally be swimming about blindly. In that depth of murky water it would be EXTREMELY difficult for even a very strong swimmer. Sorry you guys had to go thru that horrific scene.

I will see what I can figure out. If I can get it unlocked, I will mail it to you. I just appreciate you trying to do the right thing while risking your own safety. There is not enough good in our world today!

See you on the lake and have a great day!

Sounds like you did everything possible trying to help. There is absolutely nothing negative to say regarding your efforts just sorry you had to deal with that while trying to have a nice day on the water.

yes trust me this was my first time with this type of situation and it was a super hostile with the guys demanding and screaming at us to save him like we were divers or something and man I wish we would've found him. I knew i had to be smart while doing all I could and I did. So did my friend. These guys couldnt swim obviously so I have no idea what made them want to try there but anyhow really really sad. I mean i could feel the bottom with the docking pole i was using and we jumped in multiple times to the bottom and nothing.. Crews still haven't found him I don't believe. They wouldn't let us scan anymore either so we had to sit as long as we could and at about 10 there was still no sonar of him or any sign. What sucks was it is just a tiny little cove and wind was blowing into it,, anyhow. A fellow fisherman stopped by later towards the 10 o clock hour and said he could prob find him w a crank bait which i do not doubt. Just unbelievable how small this little cove is and we didn't find him. Second nature kicked in and I have no idea really but i was feeling for hair, skin, whatever i could... sucked, could barely breath and my friend was getting sick also. MAN AGAIN PEOPLE JUST PLEASE PLEASE TELL YOUR FAMILY, TELL EVERYONE TO WEAR A LIFE JACKET!!! Not sure of any way to get a hold of hard headed people like my brother besides text him every time i hear someone drown and now tell him about this but I bet he still goes to a lake and dives in without a jacket... FROM NOW ON I WILL ASK AT RAMP IF ANYONE ON MY BOAT REFUSES TO WEAR A LIFE JACKET WHEN IN THE LAKE, IF SO THEN WE ALL GO HOME, PERIOD. I like to have fun and drink and LOVE lakes. Anyone else that does knows how many people just say oh I'm just gonna jump in and back out, I'm a good swimmer, oh it doesn't look too far, etc. MAN PLEASE MAKE THEM WEAR A LIFE JACKET. Again i almost wish I wouldn't have gone to the lake, and will never forget it and the guys that were devastated. They were all sick and couldn't talk and when police got there one of them had to call the family, just saying let this not be YOU OR YOUR FRIENDS OR FAMILY

They found him.

Story I'm reading for updates is cbs news. bummer.

Thanks for the prayers, still tough to think he just drowned. I can only imagine the loss, so sad. Just to be at the lake uneducated having fun, so they thought. Id actually delete this post since I don't want or need recognition and really was just acting on instinct trying to help. I was in desperate need of a phone and thought this would be a great source, but I think we need to remind ourselves EVERY time that safety matters on the water and the worst thing can happen so freakishly fast.. My thoughts are with the family and his friends there. 16 years old. His friends were devastated. Sick
