I was able to get out for a couple of morning sessions yesterday and today. Decided to forgo the live bait and do some trolling. Yesterday was slow, one keeper striper and 9 sand bass. My buddy surprised me when he got a banana out of his bag and ate it. I politely insisted that he never do that again and we headed in since the banana had already had its effect on the fishing. Yes, we had no bananas today and the trip went much better. We fished for a couple of hours and had one nice striper and 29 keeper sandies.we got into a pretty big top water bite west of the island but we're only mildly successful throwing baits to the school and we went back to trolling our Hellepets through the schools and had very steady action till we had to leave to go to work. Planning to get out again on Thursday .

we have had better luck casting out and letting the slab sink for about 3-5 seconds and start ripping the slab with sharp jerks when they are feeding on top. Smaller baits seemed to work also but a chrome slab fast through the schools seemed to hook up just about every cast

I tried that with a little castmaster slab and caught a couple but not fast and furious like it normally happens, tried a bigger chartreuse slab with a jig above it, caught one or two on that. Tried an umbrella with small swim baits , caught a couple on that. My buddy just started throwing one of the hellbenders with a pet spoon that we had been trolling. He was catching way more than I was on the other stuff I was trying. As we chased the school I just went ahead and trolled the other hellbender we had rigged and could hardly keep it in the water they wanted it so much. We ended up both of us trolling those rigs through the school and catching constantly till we had to leave them biting and go to work.

That sounds like some pretty good action. It was a little slow on Belton this morning.

I've never fished Belton but it is close and I should try it. how were you fishing this morning? White bass or do you have stripes or hybrids ? I wanted to get out this morning ahead of that front but I got called in to work a day shift. I'm planning to try again tomorrow if it's not too windy in front of the front.
