I use an original, 6'6" Zell Rowland Topwater Special from AllStar. Finest rod for poppers I've ever used. I asked Zell for some of his old ones. He gave me two new ones he designed for Cast Away . I'm guessing ZellPop likes those original AllStars, too

Seeing a lot longer rods being used here than I'm comfortable with, I figure a shorter rod would help benefit walking this bait better, I'm 6'1", y'all must be huge! LOL

I have an old Kistler Helium 6'6" medium with a Shimano 50mg that's my Yellow Magic rod.

You guys that are fishing with rods in the 7's , rock on. But do yourself a favor. Fish your favorite tw popper on a 6-6'10'' rod.
AND GET BACK TO ME.

With top waters like YM, I point the rod tip toward the water surface to pop the lure, so shorter is better. Can't imagine a 7' 6".

AND GET BACK TO ME. I have also used my shorter rods. The longer one will get you more distance, when you need it.

Actually like Mahfouz said, the original Allstar Topwater Special rod designed by Zell Rowland was awesome for throwing YM's and any small topwater bait. The action was spot-on for Pop R's & YM's and allowed you to throw that little bait a flipping mile on 15# mono. I'm sure someone makes a good alternative currently.

Ken, the CastAways that Zell gave me have the same action. Unfortunately, there's no cork in front of the reel, just a knurled ring that locks the reel into the seat. It irritates my finger when I'm using it for a long time during the day. I've had to add some padding to it, but the action is great!
